They're thinking "Where are you taking my burried treasure?" Then they quickly leave some fresh booty.

Mine have generally run to the category "assistant". This included a wee lass who would hop into the canister holding a 40 pound bag of clumping litter and furiously get as much as possible of it on the floor. The two I have now just inspect the proceedings, occasionally bat the scoop for clean litter, clean the sides of the box and other useful tasks. I shouldn't complain because they both help me type at the computer too, and one is always trying to catch the mouse cursor for me ;)

well i have an older cat and a younger cat. The younger one loves going outside now, but when it was always in and i cleaned the litter box, he used to watch like it was the most amazing process in the world. he'd sit next to the box and every time my arm moved, his head did along with it. strangely, it was very cute. lol
i have noticed that unlike everybody here, my cat loses interest right away. once i put the cover back on the box, he just stares at it for a second and happily runs away! So i guess mine just thinks "oh hey, look at her playing with my poop! free entertainment, i gotta call the boys!"

There's usually @ least one of them watching me, mostly our girl b/c she's the alpha cat & likes to 'supervise.' As soon as I'm done, somekitty *always* jumps in & initiates the fresh box, even though they have 4 boxes to choose from.
If the boxes aren't clean enough, I'll definately hear about it from our 3 oldest cats, they make such a big fuss you'd think the food dish was empty.

My crazy kitty attacks around the bottom of the box as I scoop, and then leaves a nice gift the minute I'm finished!

Mine suffers from ADD while I clean the box, she doesn't listen, she's jumping around making sure I'm doing it right.. I shoo her away but she still jumps in and sniffs all the powder and has a coughing fit right after... Each time this happens.

Considering my cat uses the litter box immediately after I clean it... I am guessing he is thinking,,, sheesh, she is taking my smells away! That is my property! What does she think she is doing!
OR... He is thinking,,,, Great, I have to put my smell back into that thing before anyone else claims it,,,, then places his smell into the litter.

The stray mamma cat that I rescued, circles me while I clean her box meowing like crazy! I think she is thinking... okay, my babies are in here, what do you think you are doing? GET OUT! LOL

My cats like to sit there and watch until the litterbox is cleaned, then one of them will jump in and "stink" it up right away. Guess they like to use a fresh, clean box??!!

Hector watches me and is always happy when I clean his box, he's kind of a clean freak. He waits and then checks it all out while I take out the old, then he runs around all happy.

My two younger cats look at me like I'm tearing up their favorite toy or something. They make a point of using them as soon as I'm finished as if to say, it's mine and I want poo in it. My older cat, who hates me for keeping her inside, refuses to watch me. It's as though she's the queen of England and I'm the loo cleaner.

if I have been remiss in scooping, 2 of my 3 actually "gripe" at me until I clean the boxes. they wait patiently until i'm done, then promptly get in and do the deed.

I suppose they're thinking "it's about time" :)
