I personally believe it's a myth perpetuated by bybs to justify their breeding practices!

No - not necessary or desirable!

My dog was spayed at 4 months. She's 12 years now and has never had a single health problem. The vet says she's in great shape for a large dog her age.

A bit dito from those who have said no! It is a old wives tale that a female dog should have at least one litter. Have yoru girl spayed and she will live a long and health life!

This is an old and untrue tale. It is actually healthier to have your pet spayed or neutered at a young age to eliminate the possibilites of specific health problems.

No. If your dog has proper amount of exercise, and not overweight, your dog can be healthy. Also, spay/neuter is one of the factor.

Absolutely not. You actually want to have your female dog spayed prior to her first heat cycle. Usually you have her spayed prior to her being 6 months old. Once she has her first heat cycle she has a 25% chance of developing breast cancer later in her lifetime.

Breast Cancers are a big killer of Non Desexed dogs.

Absolutely NOT! In fact, a spayed female will not get uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, or a deadly disease called pyometra. She will also have a greatly reduced chance of mammary cancer if spayed before 1st heat.
