Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

I see nothing in there about homosexuals, so how do Christians apply this to their homophobic crusade?

I find it interesting that people are doubting the Word of God - surely there wouldn't be so many interpretations if God (and his word) are perfect?

Also, I don't fornicate, nor am I effeminate. Does that mean I'm exempt from 1 Cr 6:9?

The word that gets mistranslated "effeminate" is often misconstrued to mean gay people. Never mind that gay men are some of the most macho guys I know.

The word in Greek meant "soft." The KJV translators, and subsequent translators got it wrong: what they know now is that it meant "soft clothes." It referred to a lady's man, who would dress up in "soft clothes" to woo women. It meant what in an older time, we would call a "fop." Men who chased women were considered as morally "soft" as their clothes.

Ironic, that gay people take the hit for a word that really meant a dressed up horny heterosexual.

It does NOT meant homosexuals unless you twist scripture to force it to say that.

In answer, read for yourself what the apostle Paul said at 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10: “What! Do you not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes [“male prostitutes,” New International Version; “effeminate,” King James Version], nor men who lie with men [“sodomites,” Jerusalem Bible; “homosexual perverts,” Today’s English Version], nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom.” Note that Paul specifically mentioned those who evidently take on a passive sexual role and those who assume a more active “male” role in their immoral relations. Thus he made it plain that God disapproves of all homosexual acts.

This is also evident from Paul’s words at Romans 1:18-27: “God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way, God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them, That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene.” Here Paul specifically condemned both male and female homosexuality. He condemned homosexual practices as unnatural and “obscene.”

Well, since at this time homosexuals can't be married, they fall under the fornicator/adulterer section. Possibly the effeminate is interpreted to be homosexual? Sounds more like cross dressers to me.

Here's I Cor 6:9-10, the complete sentence in scripture, NIV:

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

All the people described above are in a state of serious sin and estranged from God. This includes the sexually immoral, male prostitutes, and homosexual offenders.

As recorded in Matt 15, Jesus said that sexual immorality "makes a man unclean":

For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.' "

Opposition to homosexual immorality is not taken out of irrational fear, but out of honest recognition of the sexual morality taught by Jesus. In contrast, trying to twist scripture to justify actions you know are wrong is neither honest nor obedient to Christ.

Look up the Greek word that is translated as effeminate. It means homosexual. In fact in newer editions of the Bible it is translated as homosexual. When you read that effeminate did not stick out in your mind?

And just in case you do not like that reason here is another couple verses for you.

Romans 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

I have never personally told any body any verse that would pertained to homosexuality. That is each persons choice.

But if some one told you that verse did pertain to it, then they were probably referring to the word " Effeminate"
Which in the dictionary means= Having womanish traits or qualities inappropriate to a man; unmanly. Characterized by weakness; etc.

Each person can take that verse as they want to .

Be clear on how you are defining Christian...if you are defining Christian as the ignorant people who hold up signs and declare that "fags" are going to burn in hell, then the way they apply this to their "homophobic crusade" is that they are again...ignorant, and judgemental, and are not true Christians by definition...the true Bible believing, Jesus following definition of Christians have better things to do with their time (like...love people like Jesus did) than decide the fate of people they do not know and take it upon themselves to choose a sin to make "worse" than all other sins (yes...lying, murdering, cheating, homosexual action, intoxication, etc. is all the same in God's eyes...)

What exactly do you think "fornicators", "adulterers", "effeminate", and "abusers of themselves with mankind" are? Homosexuality fits into all of those.

"effeminate" is the KJV word of being homosexual. There is nothing homophobic about speaking against the "lifestyle".

Homosexuality is a form of fornication, i.e. sex out of marriage. That is how it equates. But, let's be honest, heterosexual sex outside of marriage is just as bad.
