She is a model of obedience. She was told that her heart would be pierced with a sword (that she would suffer) and yet she said yes to God's plan.

Because without her saying "yes" to being the mother of Jesus, things would have been different. Very different.
When she was asked to be Jesus' mother, Mary didn't ask a lot of questions about it. What would have happened if she had?
Well, first, Gabriel would have had to explain that Mary and Joseph would have to travel to register for a census while Mary was pregnant, and then sleep in a cave because the inn was full.
Then she would have been told that, after giving birth, she and her husband would have to flee to a foreign country with their newborn baby because there was a king who was trying to kill Him.
Then she would have been told that, during the course of her Son's life, He would say and do some pretty outlandish things, and be mistreated and ridiculed often along the way.
Then she would have been told that eventually, her Son would be unjustifiably arrested, convicted, tortured, and put to death in the most cruel way imaginable.
At no point, during any of this, did Mary ever say, "Hey, I never signed up for this!"
She was, along with her Son, the PERFECT example of love for God and of obedience to Him.

She was the first to believe Jesus is the Son of God. (Luke 1)
She was the first to be willing to give up everything, including her very life, for that belief. (Luke 1)
She was the first to receive the Holy Spirit. (Luke 1)
She was the first to intercede for other people and ask Jesus to intervene (Wedding at Cana, John 2)
She is Jesus' mother, and because He honors her ("Honor thy father and mother" is a commandment the Lord would never break) and I want to follow Him, therefore I must honor her. Besides, the Bible says all generations will call her blessed (Luke 1)

The child loves his/her Mother. The commandment says "Honor Thy Father and Thy Mother" I am a member of the Body of Christ. Jesus loves his Mother and so I love my Mother Mary too.

She had to be quite an amazing woman to be chosen to be the mother of the savior of the world. Mothers hold a lot of influence over their children.

Because Mary was spiritually enlightened enough to understand that God is not dependent upon man to create.

because of who God is. Mary gave birth to God the son. It is a matter of respect and honor. Do you think Jesus didnt honor his own mother, when one of his commandments tell us to honor our mother and father.
