There are several parts of my answer.
First, personally, I like to cook for my family. It is a way for me to show them that I care about them.
Second, I just like to cook. I enjoy good food, and enjoy it even more when make something myself. I feel satisfied and happy with the accomplishment. (Note, it can get tiresome).
Third, when you are the cook, you get to choose what to make. If you like particular foods or styles of foods, you get to choose them.
Fourth, you see what goes into the food. You know is properly prepared.
Fifth, eating as a family, at home is important. We feel more connected and closer because we share meals. It is a time when our day slows down, when we talk, and enjoy each others company. With life being what it is today, too often we all have our own priorities elsewhere, this is one place when we are 100% a family group.

home cooking tastes much better and is a lot more nutritional than eating out. If you're single and don't live with your mother to cook for you no one else is gonna do it for you--thats why its important to know how to cook. It also comes in handy when you have a family who's hungry and when you have invited guests over for dinner.

Cooking is important because of wasting your money on restaurant food you should get a well cooked meal. Alos, it's not very healthy if you don't have a home cooked meal in a while.

When you grow up and have your own place you will need to feed yourself, because you can not live on McDonald's alone and be healthy! On the other hand if you are asking why you need to cook food in order to eat it, it is not really that necessary to cook food to eat it.

Well, if one were to be incredibly basic, perhaps cooking is important because it keeps you ALIVE? - Really...if you can't make food, how will your body sustain life?, and I'm pretty sure staying alive is pretty important...

Some guys use cooking as a survival mechanism in dating. Like "Hey, I might not look good or have a decent job but I'm charming and I can cook for you."

Cooking is important because it kills bacteria on meats and vegetables.
Some foods can't be chewed raw because they are too tough so cooking them softens them enough to be eaten.
Some foods in their raw state are poisonous but, once cooked, are edible and won't harm us.
Hope that helps.
