I am trying to make cinnamon rolls. I need to let the dough rise, but I put it in a low temp oven (just barely warm) to rise, and it didnt at all! So...why might my dough not rise? I followed the recipe to the T!

The lowest temperature on an oven is 200º. I believe that is the warming temperature. By health standards, warming is anything above 140º. Yeast dies at those temperatures.

So, a couple of things could have gone wrong. 1) your yeast was too old, 2) the heat was too hot for the yeast.

Next time, start with a cold oven, turn the temperature on to 400º for exactly 1 minute and turn it off. Place your bowl of dough in the oven, covered, with a pan with about an inch of hot water on the shelf below it. That will help your dough to rise nice and high. I love to make cinnamon rolls. Don't use any heat other than that first 400º degrees until you are ready to bake.

Good luck!

It was probably your yeast. It may have been old or the water temp may not have been warm enough or to hot. The best way to make sure that it is good is to dissolve it in warm water with some sugar, if it is good it will foam up slightly after setting for a minute or two, it sort of looks like a beige beer. If it is bad it doesn't foam like a beer.
The water should be about 105 to 110 degrees or feel sort of warm to the touch.

Check the expiration date on your yeast and make sure your water is at the right. If it isn't either one then maybe the place you are putting your dough isn't warm enough for it to rise.

maybe theres not enough yeast, or the baking powder and baking soda may have gotten mixed up or switched. Maybe thats just how the rolls are supposed to turn out?

probably the yeast, either it is old, or the water was too hot or two cold when you put the yeast in

did you dissolve your yeast in lukewarm water? if the water was too hot, it may have killed the yeast so that it wouldn't rise.
