i'm trying to remember what the thing is called that some people keep in their bedroom to change behind , their usually kind of oriental, about 6 feet tall

a folding screen, sometimes called a "shojii" screen (though that is more properly the sliding wood and rice paper doors that are used to connect rooms in a traditional Japanese house.

Usually just called a screen. Soji screen is also a term I've heard.

Screens......are you thinking Shoji Screens? Shoji refers to the paper like panels.
