NQV,

I'm not interested in Islam, nor does it make sense, so I think I'll pass!

The Muslim family I lived with for three months were appalled when I brought a dog into my apartment and bathed it. Someone had been beating it outside and I felt so bad for it. They think that dogs have no feelings and should be shot rather than fed. I don't understand that.

A friend in MN that is Muslim came to my home for dinner one evening with his family. I had three dogs and an iguana.
They were shocked that I let dogs live in the house and let the lizard crawl around on my shoulders. Kalef told me the same thing my Egyptian family said. Animals have no place in the home and shouldn't be taken care of like they are children. I don't know why they feel this way. No one could ever explain that to me.

Yes, of course! Spiritual, emotional and physical benefits. Physically the dog and I exercise, and yeah, she helps keep my blood pressure down after a tough day of neocon bashing. My dog is my very best friend and soul mate (whoever said dogs don't have souls is WRONG- IMO) When my SO left me without so much as a good-bye, I cried for a week and my dog lay next to me and cried along with me. She kept me sane through that time, that's a true friend. Anyone who doesn't think that pets are spiritual either hates animals or never had that connection with another sentinent being. BA: I guess it depends on what you prefer. I think all animals are spiritual, some people are more cat than dog or other people. I've known some spiritual cats, but I prefer dogs myself. (((Toke))))

Islam doesn't have anything against owning a pet except cats, but a lot of western muslims still have dogs, we just use a different outfit to pray. You can not pray in any cloths that has been smelled by a dog, untill u wash it.

Having lived in Afghanistan for 3 years, married to a Moslem, the only thing I noticed that kept them from pet ownership, was horrible poverty. Many of our Afghan friends had dogs. I am involved with Greyhound rescue, & recently assisted an Iranian doctor with his adopting two, 90lb retired racers.

Muslims are allowed to own any kind of animals, but when it comes to dogs they are allowed to own them only for the purpose of safety. For instance, to guard the house and protect you. Dogs are suppose to be kept outside not inside. That is so because the dogs saliva is considered uncleansed. I am a Muslim and I know that Pets are ALLOWED

It's permitted to own pets.

Dog's are considered dirty in many Muslim countries though and so it's only recently that they have been thought of as pets, as opposed to guard dogs. Some Muslim countries have banned dogs as pets though because they see it as a sign of western influence.

It is not unheard of for some Sheiks to have guard lions.

Muslim households have certain pets such as cats, birds, fishes and other animals. You are supposed to support at least some animals. My father shares his breakfast egg with some cats and birds every day.

We are not allowed to have dogs however, as they can be filthy. If you enter a house which has a dog, you can smell his presence or the home owners have to spray the heck out with artificial fragrances to hide the odors.

Dogs in some third World countries roam free. You see them having x-rated demonstrations in broad day light. When they are not doing that, then they are chasing after innocent old people and young kids who can not run away from them and barking and scaring them.

That does not mean you can not keep dogs. You can keep them outside where they belong, so they are not licking their genitals in one instance and your face in the next if living with you or dropping their saliva drippings immediately after a good cleaning of their orifices smearing your carpet and floor with droplets of their urine and feces or other body fluids. Cats do not drip saliva all over. Birds stay in cages or live outside if they are pigeons.

Own pets with responsibility, remembering that all animals including dogs and pigs were created for a purpose by our common Creator, the Almighty. Do not transform pets into fellow human beings nor treat humans like dogs. Balance is the key in everything!!

I hope this makes sense..

P.S. Do not waste your time on Answering Islam, as it distorts the Islamic belief by half truths and by using references from books written three to four hundred years after the Prophet (such as Sahih Bukhari), when in fact many enemies of the Prophet or his family ruled the Muslim lands and created many stories against him of a filthy nature to diminish his stature.

Do a search on how the Prophet's grandson was killed and
by whom, and you will begin to realize the truth to what I am saying.

You must care for an animal with great respect and never harm it. You just cannot own a dog or a pig for sanitary reasons. There is an exception to dog ownership though(the blind...)

Dogs are considered unclean in Islamic law and the spread of dog ownership in Westernised secular circles in Iran is frowned upon by the religious establishment.
