I LOVE these long-winded speeches above me. They missed the most obvious thing to check.

LOOK ON YOUR REMOTE for an "MTS" button or an "AUDIO" or "STEREO" button.

IT might have been accidently pressed and turned off the sound.
To restore sound press it...press it again and again...it will cycle thru all the sound settings.
Press it until either STEREO appears, or MAIN appears.
You don't want it set for SAP !

You want MORE DETAILED instructions? Give me the BRAND and the MODEL NUMBER.

Sometimes you will find MTS settings in the MENU, under the AUDIO ICON.

You can also find the INSTRUCTION MANUAL for the MODEL number on the web for MOST TV sets....
They have nice pictures of the remote control that describes exactly what each button does, and how to do it.

MOST TV SETS do not have audio failures....they have "accidental button pushes"

Some possibilities:

See if the sound cables are still firmly plugged into the right jacks (Little kids are a suspect here). It wouldn't hurt to substitute another set of audio cables but if you are using the typical dual stereo RCA cables that come with most DVD players, it is unlikely that both would go bad at the same time.

If the cables are good, you need to figure out if the DVD player has stopped sending out sound or the TV has stopped using the sound that the DVD player is sending out.

Do you have a VCR, stereo, video game, CD player or something else that has sound in/out jacks? For example, if you hook up the line outs on one of these to your TV and you can't hear any sound from them, then your TV's sound has stopped working. If this is the case you could work around the problem by listening to the sound through a stereo.

If you hook up the sound out jacks on the DVD player to a stereo, do you hear the sound. If the sound out on the DVD player is dead, you need to buy another one.

Check the menu on the TV to make sure it is not set to receive sound through another kind of cable connection.

If none of this helps, you might add to your question the following information.

What kind of cables are you using to hook your DVD player to your TV?

What is the brand & model of your TV?

Can you receive TV programs through an antenna?

When you say "it used to" then it was working before, right?
Most probably, the problem is with the cable. Reconnecting it might help.

Firstly, you must remove all the connections between the tube and dvd player. Now, reconnect it to the tube and dvd player - just follow the color coding and you won't get wrong. Try to watch and see what happens.

If it still fails, then get a new set of AV cables and connect it.

Glad to be of help

Thumbs Up!
