I've read endless questions and answers on here about which dog food is best for my maltese x puppy, but I'm STILL in doubt since all the good stuffs aren't available here in Australia. So here I found a considerable option. What do you guys & girls reckon?

CRAP. Plain and simple. I have seen more and more store bought brand claming to be natural and healther then ever but they still have fillers and additives that case major problems such as cancer for dogs. Stay away from them and anyother store bought brand.

If you are absolutely convinced that you want to feed your dog commercial food - Innova/evo/california natural is sold through the Pets Paradise chain in Australia. Is there one near you?

From chatting with other raw feeders around the world it appears that we not only have some of the healthiest and leanest meats but the also the cheapest. Even with the drought sending prices soaring.

As the recommended amount of food is about 2-3% of expected adult body weight per day it won't cost you much at all. We raw feed a 17kg stafford, three cats and 3 turtles for much less than the cost of commercial food.

Taking a look at the ingredients:

Premium Ingredients
Rice, Australian lamb, corn gluten meal, tallow, Omega MagicTM essential oil blend, oat bran, FOS, yucca extract, sodium HMP, natural flavours, vitamins A D3 E K3 B1 B2 B3 B5 B6 B12, Folic Acid, Biotin, Copper (from Sulphate), Copper Chelate, Zinc (from Sulphate), Zinc Chelate, Manganese (from Oxide), Manganese Chelate, Iron (from Sulphate), Iron Chelate, Selenium, Iodine, and Calcium. Product protected by natural mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract.

I don't like the fact that meat is not the first ingredient listed, rice is; and I don't like the corn gluten meal as well.

It is not the best one out there. On a scale of 1- 10, I would only give it a 3. Here are some that are better than Natural Balance

Canidae

Wellness

Innova

Solid Gold

If you can't find those anywhere, you can go with the one you have. It isn't the best, but it will do. Good Choice.

It has corn gleuten (sp) as one of the top ingredients. That's a filler and lots of dogs have an allergy to corn/wheat/gleuten. You can go to dogfoodanalysis.com and get foods rated from 6 (highest) to 1 (lowest quality). Perhaps you can go to that website and see if you recognize any of the foods listed that are available in your area...another idea of course is to buy online

Please go to this site and make your own decision
Pick a high rated food. I personally feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers Soul because of it's availability and affordability, and it's a good food.

There isn't enough meat in that food. Its alot of filler.

You've got one of the greatest dog foods, something available nearly anywhere they sell meat.

Research a raw diet. I think you'll be amazed at the results.

The corn gluten meal would worry me - contaminated gluten meal from China is what poisoned so many dogs and cats earlier in the year.

Should be no corn meal in dog food in any case.
