When Jesus referred to "this generation" in Matthew 24:34, He was referring to the generation of people who will witness the events of the second coming. In 24:36, He goes on to explain that not even He (Jesus) knows when the time will be but we can know that it will be like in the days of Noah. Many Christians believe that the signs of the end of the age will be taking place within the next couple years.
See you in the clouds my friend!

Jesus never said that He would return in the early church.
He said no one but God the Father knows when He will return.
He said the Gospel had to be preached in every nation (many parts of the world were unknown to the early church).
Revelations 7:9-17 says there will be people of every nation, kindred, people, and tongue with Jesus.

Dear Saved in China,
Jesus taught us that He is coming back although He also said that nobody knows the hour or the day. The point being that we should always live in such a way- that we are ready for Him when He does return.
One of the things that Jesus' return does is gives us hope. And so he wanted to remind them that there would come a time when they would always be with the Lord- either when they died or when the Lord returns.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

If you are refering to the Second Coming, Jesus never said that he would come back during their lifetime. He never said when, but he did say to be ready for we do not know the time or the date.

He didn't. Most of the events described in Matthew Chapter 24 would happen much later than the generation of the Apostles, including his return.

The generation that he was referring to is that generation which sees the leafing of the fig tree.
The fig tree put forth her leaves when the state of Israel was formed, in 1946. Man is given 70 years on earth, which applies to his generation. The generation which was born when the fig tree leafed is still alive.

No, he didn't... he said the KINGDOM would come during their lifetimes and it DID.
Mark 9:1 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.”

He didn't. That passage is often misquoted or mistranslated. He was speaking about a future generation, the generation that would see the signs of the times come to pass. And he called it "this generation", meaning the future generation he was speaking of, not the current generation of his day.

Well as the earth is many millions of years old he can't go wrong really, can he? There are still a load of gullible Christians he could revisit.
