Try not to think about it. I know it is hard, but eventually you'll get used to them and it won't bother you anymore. Another option for you is to wear them only when you need them (when driving, in school, cinema, etc.).
You should also know that you can eliminate the need for your glasses. There are eye exercises for vision improvement that can help you see better without your glasses and contacts within a few months of practicing. I was able to improve my own vision completely through these exercises.

I actually have that same problem, but I cannot ever wear contacts because I have severe dry eye and have tried every contact on the market, and cannot wear them for even 5 minutes. It feels like I have dirt in my eyes constantly, so I have no choice but to wear glasses. At least you have the option. I know what works for me is that I may hate my glasses, but I am fortunate that with them I can see, whereas there are people out there that are blind, and would kill to be in our position, so look at it that way. It could be worse.

I like Capulet's answer. Wear your glasses into your stylist and let her go to town!
Also, have you considered wearing different make up with and without your glasses? For example, eyebrows tend to look a little lost with glasses on for some people. Make sure they are well shaped and are filled in (a little heavier than normal even, as they are competing with your frames). Be sure to curl your lashes so they come away from the lens. However, you don't want your eye makeup to be too dark, as that will make the entire top half of your face very "heavy" looking (not size wise, just "stuff" wise).

Some of the biggest names in show business publically wear glasses. Glasses are in style right now even with laser eye surgery. It's better to wear glasses and look dorky than look cool and walk into a building, pole or tree right in front of everyone.

I am an Optician, I consider myself more an "eyewear stylist". The right pair of glasses could create a great image for you. I have over 20 pairs of eyewear, and think of glasses more as accessories. When you are able to get new ones let me know, send me your picture, and I will be happy to suggest styles that will look fabulous on you.

This may sound funny, but have you considered getting a new hair cut/color with your glasses? I got lasix surgery so i dont need them anymore, but I know when I got my hair cut/colored it made me much more confident even with my glasses....
