it depends on what kind of music you are singing. In country music, it'd sound really weird if you didn't have a nasal twang. In classical music, it's not at all wanted, except for a funny special effect, like making fun of someone else.
You can control how much nasal is in your sound by learning to use your soft palate, the soft spongy tissue on the roof at the back of your mouth. Actually, you know how to use it- every time you start to yawn it lifts up, and you can control this consciously. Go ahead, start to yawn. All done? Good. Now try it again, but stop after that first big inrush of air. Feel the lift? Now shut your mouth, and try the lift so. See? It's easy. If you can keep that lift in place while singing, then your sound will not be nasal. It'll take some time and patience to keep it there, but that's what practicing is all about, isn't it?

It might help if you open the back of your throat more and try to get the sound to resignate behind your teeth and in the upper part of your face. It's a weird concept to understand and difficult to put into words.. try humming and place your sound where you feel it when you hum or make a face like your biting into an apple when you sing. It takes a while to learn. I apologize if this is unclear, but I wish you the best of luck.

Of course you breathe thru your nose even in singing. I think you're referring to singing Nasally. Either it's part of his singing dynamics in a particular song or that's how he sings. There are two ways of inhaling before letting out a tune: thru the Nose, and; thru Nose and Mouth together depending on how much air you need. It's safer to breathe thru your nose since your nose filters out dirt from the air, then exhale thru the mouth.

it's not bad for you, but performace may suffer when you do this, because you don't get enough air when you do.
when you breathe through your mouth, you can do it faster, and the hole is bigger. you can't breathe as fast through your nose, and you won't be supporting your sound with air very well.
Also, I'd just like to point out that on the screenplay of HSM, they lipsync, so it doesn't matter what u saw. he probably didn't breathe through his nose in the recording studio, though.
hope it helped!!! :)

Some people like it and others don't it is just a matter of opinion. If you think that it sounds good then it is fine.
