Yes, it is completely appropriate for a woman to wear clothing that reveal her pregnant "shape". In fact, I would argue that she should wear clothing that is flattering to her figure as she is going to be showing a little baby bump for quite sometime and she should waste that time in her life looking like a walking tent.
Check out the websites below to see what is considered acceptable and fashiobale for pregnant women.

I prefer to see pregnant women wearing what is comfortable to move around in. Smock dresses can be cumbersome - too much material preventing easy movement of the legs and arms, especially if one has a neurological or other movement disorder. Smocks can also get hot because of the larger amounts of pleats and folds of material. I have yet to see a pregnant woman wearing "tight"clothing. I believe "close fitting" is the intended word. The material is elasticised and moves with the body. It is actually more comfortable to wear that type of clothing while pregnant. However I do get concerned when I see the bare tummy exposed by low rise pants and a midriff top. The baby's/foetuses house is exposed to a different temperature to the rest of the mums body and it must have an affect on the baby. I have heard many heart and urology specialists say that low rise pants and midriff tops that expose the kidneys are unhealthy, so bare pregnant tummies must not be very good either. Which brings me to the issue of bare pregnant tummies down the beach. The tummy skin is stretched it should be covered to prevent sun exposure. Once the baby is born, not only will the tummy look wrinkly and flabby for a awhile - it will also have peeling skin ! But that is that pregnant persons choice. Even if it is a poor one. My mum gives 'dirty looks' to pregnant women who wear close fitting clothing OR as was popular with me and other pregnant mums twenty years ago - denim overalls or 'hotpants'. The poor pregnant person has no idea why this stranger is giving them a 'dirty look', and they have done nothing to hurt the person who is giving them a 'dirty look'. No wonder some young folk come on YA Senior Citizens category and abuse seniors !

Yes it is acceptable. And I think that the pregnant woman should wear what is also most comfortable for her and what makes her feel as beautiful as she is during this time. Because, let's face it even some of the trendier maternity clothes are not the most comfortable. It should be a balance and that's a personal choice (and this changes as the months go by so don't buy everything at once --- buy a few outfits at a time)
I also think it's acceptable to wear a bikini or tankini too! People might stare a little though...

People who comment on what other people chose to wear are rude.
The things about tight-fitting are whether it's so tight you're uncomfortable, and the more obvious the pregancy, the more likely everyone on the planet will feel they have the right to tell you what to do and not do, and touch your "belly".
There was a time (a really long time), when you were supposed to "hide" your state. Them days be gone, fortunately. You aren't expected to lock yourself in your room as soon as you begin to show.
Wear what you want.
You'll find, though, that after a while, you can't stuff yourself into your ordinary clothes.

I really like the new custom of tighter-fitting clothes. It shows a woman is proud of her pregnancy and not trying to hid it.

If they are too tight, they are no longer modest. But you don't have to wear a mumu.
