According to Jesus, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. -- Matthew 19:23-24, Mark 10:23-25
So what do you think Billy Grahame, or the Pope's chances are?
The Vatican has large investments with the Rothschilds of Britain, France and America, with the Hambros Bank, with the Credit Suisse in London and Zurich. In the United States it has large investments with the Morgan Bank, the Chase-Manhattan Bank, the First National Bank of New York, the Bankers Trust Company, and others. The Vatican has billions of shares in the most powerful international corporations such as Gulf Oil, Shell, General Motors, Bethlehem Steel, General Electric, International Business Machines, T.W.A., etc. At a conservative estimate, these amount to more than 500 million dollars in the U.S.A. alone.

John Wesley once wrote that the accumulation of wealth in the church undermines its very Christian foundations. American evangelicalism may have started from its pauper beginnings but is now enjoying its current wealth.

Sorry Pretty, I got side tracked by a phone call, and forgot what I was going to ask lol. The church not only likes to siphon money I uses these passages to justify the poverty it creates, but suddenly suffer's amnesia when it is questioned about its assets.

Hello blogdog, I personally do not like the NIV, its devoid of any beauty - but what do I know... aparently you consider me a genius?
You should read the Bible yourself, it is quite definate about the rich not getting to heaven (Luke 16:19-25, Luke 6:24, James 5:1)
As for the 'eye of a needle' being a a gate in Jerusalem - which a camel could not pass unless it stooped and first had all its baggage first removed.
Great sermon material, with the parallels of coming to God on our knees without all our baggage. A lovely story and unfortunately unfounded!
Translation error - the Greek word kamilos ('camel') should really be kamêlos, meaning 'cable, rope'.

the Aramaic word 'gamla' means rope and camel, possibly because the ropes were made from camel hair. Evidence for this also comes from the 10th century Aramaic lexicographer Mar Bahlul who gives the meaning as a "a large rope used to bind ships".

O.K. Genius,
You actually quoted scripture as if you have some kind of authority and don't get the meaning of it?
Let me help you out friend,
What Jesus was pointing out was, the man who asked the question to follow Jesus was very rich. But rather than leave his belongings and literally follow Jesus, he chose to hang on to his stuff, and go home.
The illustration is, when you follow Jesus, you may have to do some sacrificing. Some friends may cut off friendships with you, when you become a believer in Jesus. Some family may disown you etc. but it has little to do with wealth. However, I guarentee your life will change. T
The first of the 10 commandments is "You shall have no other gods before me."
If you love ANYTHING more than God, you have just made it an idol. Like a loved one, money, stuff etc. Then it is more difficult to follow the Lord.
In addition, back in Jesus's day, there was a small gate to the city of Jerusalem that was called, "The eye of the needle." Because it was so short of an opening, camels had much difficulty going thru this gate, so much so, that camel owners would rather avoid this entrance. They tried to find their own way into the city.
Isn't this much like people when they read in the bible? Rather than believe the truth, people would rather find their own way to heaven.....and as a result, they stay lost.
(Jesus) "I am the way and the truth and the life, NO ONE gets to the father but by me."
Jesus also says, "Follow me, my yoke is easy, my burden is light."
and also, (Jesus) "For God SO loved the world that he gave his only son, that WHOEVER should BELIEVE in Him should NOT perish, but WILL HAVE eternal life."
The whole belief idea has nothing to do with money...no one goes to heaven with a u-haul in tow.
We came into the world naked with nothing, we will leave this world naked with nothing.
I assure you that Billy Graham will have no problem getting into heaven due to his obedience to Jesus Christ. And that goes for all you have listed above who have their salvation secure in Jesus Christ.
We will all reach heaven, rich or poor as long as we accept Jesus as our savior.
P.S. (May I suggest a good study bible to help you in your studies? The life application Bible NIV version is a great source to understand the customs and origins of the Old and New Testament)

I don't believe in heaven, but I sincerely doubt any of those men practice what they preach. They're business men that know religion is a very hot prospect -- there is no end to gullible people who are willing to give up their money.
It could be I'm a cynical Atheist, but I believe most of those evangelists are as crooked as most politicians and more sleazy.
I hope that's a good answer, David. I try my best but I don't think I can be as thorough as you -- the up side is I get to keep my hair!

David, this wasn't entirely what I was talking about. But to answer the question, no, because there is no such thing as hell. It was made up to scare people and to keep them in nice little sheep herds. What better way to siphon money from somebody than to tell them their worst fears will come true if they don't hand it over?

I personally find those tele-evangelists sickening! They strut about on the stage in front of huge crowds, proselytizing, cajoling, mouthing off about sin and greed and all those other 'evil' qualities.
Then before we know it, the message comes on at the end of the show, soliciting you to buy their products, usually CDs, books, and other related garbage! Oh, and they were the most expensive of Italian suits, Gucci shoes, flashing the bling-bling, the jewellery, etc, etc...
They should be rounded up, locked away and they keys buried somewhere!!!!!!

That is not for you to fortell or any man or women on the face of the earth or is hellfire.
That choice remains to be the Lord Allah All Mighty all Mercyful and nothing will ever enter heaven without his mercy and grace upon us.
Not even Jesus himself A.s. will be able to show them, he will clearly intersede and say, I hurd them not Allah, you are the Lord that grants such power and I have yet to hear anything they ever said. I am in heaven with you along side my brothers and the Angels as I wait for the day you send me, and they keep calling for me and I cannot hear them.

Billy Graham and the Pope will most likely make it.
Those verses don't mean that it's impossible for the rich to go to heaven. Just that it is more difficult.
Just as the camel isn't trying to make it thru a sewing needle, but the small gate in the town wall made for them. Difficult, not impossible.

Actually, Billy Graham lives modestly. However, as for most of the rest, if they can really heal through the TV, then there in. My guess is that Jesus will call their bluff.
