I was talking with my catholic campus minister about my friends. They dont seem to like me getting into religion and talking about God. I was worried because I didnt know what to do, he told me that I should just be myself and not care what people think. Then he said 'I guess I just want to maybe challenge you to see things differently.'

I get the be myself part, but the challenge? I dont understand what he means. Any ideas?

I'm actually Muslim, but let me take a stab at this.

If you feel like talking about God and living a good life and your friends don't, find someone else to talk to. I would really suggest you speak to people of other faiths because then the conversation is not pedantic - you are expressing viewpoints and finding commonalities and differences. I talk to people about religion all of the time. I have friends that don't like talking about it. No big deal. There will always be someone that wants to share a story or opinion.

Good luck!

Lots of times, people in college and high school just go with the flow and do whatever their friends are doing.

Sometimes, it can be a challenge to stand up for yourself and your beliefs. What your campus minister is trying to tell you is to think for yourself and be your own person.

And this can be a challenge, especially if you are trying to live a faithful life. Just think about it like this, you stayed up late Saturday night at a party, had a little too much to drink, woke up late Sunday with a hangover. Are you going to go to church or are you going to stay home. None of your friends go to church, and will it really hurt to miss this one time? OR your boyfriend/girlfriend wants to have sex with you and you don't. But all your friends are having sex.

I could go on with the examples, but I think you get the point. Sometimes the hardest part of being a Christian is having faith and sticking to it, when others aren't.

Maybe he meant you should imagine yourself as someone whom has no real understanding of Yahweh. Most people only know the figment of their own imaginations when it comes to a creator. You have to teach them differently. From there their faith will reveal the rest.

When I was just doing my thing in the world. I didn't understand how pathetic it was until I stepped out of it to have a look. Worshiping idols (people, gossip, cars, money...), smoking, drinking, sleeping with people, fighting, stealing, insecurity, ego, drama. This is what Satans world is really about. Lies, death, and self destruction.

Belief teaches us to be better people than this. It teaches us to not be as the selfish animals are. But it took awhile. Change doesn't happen over night. We have a lot of filth and clutter to come clean of. And more garbage to avoid from then on. Find thoughtful caring approaches to talking with your friends. Share some of your personal experiences. Tell them how it feels to not live by the pitiful standards of the wordly.

Remember to pray for them if you love them. Always be thankful that you were chosen to become a believer. It's truly a reward others wont understand until they are elevated to the same spiritual status. I pray that they do.

i think a lot of Christians have a tendency to put Christianity on a pedistol so high up that they can't even begin to learn from other religions or cultural. I'm a Christian and I was once guilty of this. When you listen less than you talk you learn so much about yourself and your beliefs and you realize how similar you are to people you thought were so differents. One of the first things that I learned while doing this is that we're all pretty similar despite some details....do good good things happen, do bad bad things will happen.

be open to the views and ideas of others.
right and wrong

you might not believe or understand everything in the universe , but being open to an idea. widen your mind and challenge everything.

But in the end be true to yourself. Neither a priest nor your friends should dictate your life. That is for you alone

You are an individual be the indvidual God created you to be, your relationship with God is personal but He wants you to demonstrate it publicly. You just like me have an evangelistic heart I get in trouble too, I'd rather offend man for telling the truth than offend God for not telling it. Peace & Love.

I think the bigger issue is the Catholic religion itself. You should read a book called "The Two Babylons" by Alexander Hislop.

It shows that the Catholic belief system is a mirror image of the Ancient Babylonian Mystery Religion. Also I would recommend reading Martin Luther to see the flaws of the Catholic "faith"

Sweet child, imagine what would have happened if Noah had listened to his peers and decided to not build an ark. There would be no one left on this planet! Sometimes the step of faith with just one person is big enough to change the world.
I know this because I read it in the bible, and everything in the bible is true.
Praise Christ!

Doesn't the Bible itself say to seek the truth? How will you know what the truth is if you don't explore and ask questions?

Are your friends non-religious? They probably think you're going to start preaching and telling them they're going to hell or something. Do your research on your own. This is a safe place to search for the truth.
