Is the Canadian government right to keep to soldiers in Afghanistan?

The governement is doing some help to the safety & security of the afghans but it is unignorable that they can't keep everybody from harm. Soldiers in Afghanistan chose to come there. They know the risks. We (canadians) have to keep in mind that it is not just us involved in this war. There are so many people who want are desperate to stay longer than Feburary 2009. The familes & vistors in Afghanistan r just as important as us. the miltary from Canada is also training the people of Afghanistan to be Poilce workers. I am not saying that people should support our troops in Afghanistan; I just want people to understand why they are there.

They are there because Canada is a NATO member. That alliance invoked Article 6 of the NATO treaty after the attack on America. But, the real reason for Canada having troops in Afghanistan is in compliance with a UN Security Council Resolution calling for a Peace Enforcement Mission in that nation. Canada is the one nation which has provided troop support to every Peace Keeping and Peace Enforcement Mission ever authorized by the UN Security Council. It's one the reasons I have a framed photo of the Peacekeepers Monument on the wall of the patio at my home. As a retired officer of the U.S. Navy I am in awe of that record!
