First of all, dont get me wrong, I'm not talking about blue collar jobs and illegal aliens. What I want to know is, do you really thing that LEGAL immigrants come to America and take jobs from Americans? Its a fact that there are many white collar fields that are in high demand that American kids wont go to college to learn. i.e. medicine, science, engineering, etc. what do you think?

I think some of you missunderstand what I'm trying to say. Illegal aliens definately do take blue collar jobs from Americans, thats a fact. Thats not what I'm talking about. What I'm saying is, do you believe that legal immigrants take jobs from Americans? I for one do not. My wife is a legal immigrant and she came here because there were Physical Therapist positions that Americans werent recieving the training to perform. Do you feel this way. And no, I have never lost a job to an illegal alien and I have been fairly successful.

Lance: Its been my observation that teen age kids these day dont want to work. I mean, really work. When I was a kid, I hauled hay, fed cows, worked for a plumber some, I even cut fire wood one winter. Kids wont do that now unless you pay them $10 per hour.

Those jobs are protected by protectionist legislation. Undocumented workers drive down wages for low paying jobs. But what if there were undocumented workers who came here and worked as doctors or lawyers or CEO's? You never hear of such a thing. Why? If everyone in America could go to college and get an education and do what they always dreamed of growing up, there'd be a LOT more doctors and lawyers, etc., and that would mean that the pay rate of those professions would go down. That's why the system is designed to keep downward pressure on wages, because the US needs cheap labor. And the system is designed to keep money flowing in one direction; UP to those who already have it and need it least. The US Federal Reserve can control interests rates and thereby controls unemployment rates. When the FED cuts rates the economy does better, consumers buy more and businesses hire more. BUT they can't allow TOO many people to be employed because that would cause upward pressure on wages and benefits and the poor must remain poor for their purposes. When the FED raises interest rates, people buy fewer cars and houses and hiring grinds to a halt and lay offs begin. But it's NEVER those at the top of the pay scale who are laid off, it's always those at the bottom, the cashiers, dish washers, janitors, etc. Please read "The Conservative Nanny State: How the Rich Use the Government to Stay Rich and Get Richer"

The job should always go to a citizen and then IF there is a need you look towards other countries but the H1B visa, which covers the fields you are talking about is being abused.

I have no problem with looking towards other countries to fill positions that we NEED but we should instantly start steering students into those area's of need so that those jobs are filled with Americans. We should fill our own demands instead of depending on other countries.

Students are enrolled in science and math fields of study in rapidly growing numbers. Visa's should not be issued unless real need is shown. We also need a tracking and exit system to assure they do not overstay their visa and disappear into the public as illegal immigrants.

All immigration needs to be scaled back. People are coming here and taking jobs from us in all industries. Nothing pi^^es me off more that TRYING to talk to a doctor that I can't understand because of a heavy foreign accent. Or calling AOL (years ago) and not getting my problem solved because I was talking to someone in India and we didn't understand each other.

What happened? Why do we need to import SO many people? I think we are actually importing consumers to support our retail and service industries. Best Buy and Sears need long lines and since they have so much competition now we are importing spenders. This is also why illegals are allowed to roam free. Local chambers of commerce and fat pockets for politicians, in addition to keeping our new God happy, the Stock Market.

Illegal immigrants ''take'' some of the most important jobs in America. Those are the starter jobs every kid in America needs. Those jobs give ''working experience'' to the youth heading out into the real world. These jobs are also important to older Americans who for one reason or the other never achieved a higher education or learned any valuable skills. And finally retired people here in America need menial jobs to supplement their inadequate retirement funds. Insisting that immigrants follow the laws already in place, hopefully will reduce the number of immigrants and free up some of this much needed, low skilled job opportunities.

It has been proven that illegal immigration has a negative impact on the wages Americans make.

what are these jobs americans wont do anyways?
Ive never heard of them.
Unless your talking about jobs that dont pay anything, if thats the case, then thats the staement, jobs Americans wont do at crap pay.
market dictates the price, send the illegals home, cancel the visas and let the American workers work these jobs at the market price without lowering the price do to illegal workers in this country.

I think immigrants from around the world come here for jobs, period. Not to "take jobs from Americans" but simply, to get a job that will help them provide a better life for their families.

"Take jobs from Americans" seems like there is some other agenda when that just simply isn't the case.

Nearly all of us in the US are the descendants of immigrants who did the very same thing.

I think ultimately it's a wash. Yes, new immigrants are taking jobs away from Americans, but then because they live here, they need housing, food, transportation, consumer goods, clothing, etc. All those things represent more jobs created.
