I really just like to have 1-2 glasses in the evening when I get home from work. I'm not on a hard core diet, however, I would like to tone up a bit. Will drinking red wine prevent this from happening? Will I gain weight from red wine?

Yes and no. Drinking 11 -2 glases per day may be a little bit much. Tyr cutting that down to 1 glass with dinner and cut back on your carbs for dinner. Eliminate snacks and you'll lose weight.

red wine won't hurt you a bit since it does have some controversial health benefits as long as you keep it to 1-2 glasses a day. it is also better than white wine since it has less sugars. it won't make you as bloated like beer or hard liquor and soda will. I work out and still enjoy a glass or two at night when i get home and have not gained weight for it.

All alcohol is high in calories but 1-2 glasses of wine per day won't make a significant difference.

Wine does have some carbs, which you need to watch if you are trying to lose weight. If you are just toning up, I don't see how 1 glass would have a detrimental affect.

It shouldn't affect your progress if you do everything else correctly....eat right and get plenty of exercise.
Weight Watchers actually allows for alcohol in their points plan. Theoretically you could have a drink or two every night and still lose weight following their plan. If you consumed in excess it could certainly hinder your progress, but not 1 or 2 glasses per day.

drinking shouldnt prevent you from loosing weight, however wine, not unlike all alcohol, contains a lot of calories. as long as you eat healthy and exercise regularly you should'nt have any problem tonning up.

Wine will increase your appetite, that leads to weight gain.

All alcohol is carbs, so if your diet it low-carb based, drinking wine/alcohol will sabotage your plans a bit.

It won't necesarily prevent it, but it will likely slow it down a good bit. If you like liquor, try a vodka (flavored or regular) and diet cola. Those are my fave! And have almost no carbs...
