In school, we have a reading class, where we learn things such as writing skills, reading skills, critical reading, answering questions using information from the text, etc.
What would you call such a class in french?
le classe de lire? or what?

I'd call it la classe de lecture.

I think it would be close to what you have -- my recollection of French classes have me thinking it should be "la classe de lit."
