Honestly not everyone should have a dog.
They are a lot of responsibility. There are vet bills, food, emergencies, toys, treats..ect.
People should have a dog:
1. if they can can afford vet bills
2.If they are going to properly care for it.
3.If they are going to train and socialize it.
4. if they have enough time to exercise it and give it attention.
5.if they are going to commit to the dog for the lifetime of the dog.
Dogs offer a lifetime of loyalty and companionship. They are great walking partners and jogging partners. They are great to have around if you live alone.

Happy to list 5 reasons to have a dog but first I must list responsibilities of dog ownership as you can only have a dog if; you are financially capable of properly caring for a dog for 10 + years to include food, veterinarian bills and much more, you are stable geographically-that is you will be staying put and not moving constantly, you have the time and energy for a dog, you have a good healthy sense of humor as dogs sometimes do things that are not really nice but you have to just laugh it off like when dogie tears up a $200 comforter; you are willing to pick up feces both in your own yard or in the yard of where you rent.
If the above are met; companionship and joy, a symbiotic relationship of love and affection, a sense of fulfillment in taking care of a completely dependent soul, a friend who gives you reason to get up each day and see each day as a new beginning, someone to make you laugh and sigh, a dedicated friend which is something rare in this day and age.

There is only 1 reason why people "should" have a dog, yet a million reason why people "want" a dog.
You should only be able to own a dog (or any animal) if you are a responsible pet owner. Understanding that when you adopt or take ownership of an animal it is for LIFE! You are the primary caregiver for this animal and if they need to go to the vet, or get sick, you need to be responsible enough to get it the care that it needs. If you are unable to financially afford the proper care, you need to sign your pet over to the ASPCA, or don't get one in the first place. As part of being a responsible pet owner, you must also not abuse your pets. This includes, but is not limited to - making sure that your pet gets the proper nutrition, proper attention, proper exercise, proper training, etc and is not treated as Vick's animals were.
As to why people "want" a dog..
1. They are great companions.

1.) Dogs are very loyal-they'll always be by your side.
2.) Dogs are very friendly and make great companions for anyone.
3.) Dogs can always put a smile on your face when you're sad or mad.
4.) Dogs can actually improve your health.
5.) Best of all, dogs love you no matter what you look like or what your mistakes are-they give unconditional love.

1) Protection ( only get a guard dog breed )
2) A dog teaches your kids responsibility.
3) Helps to keep you fit through walking dog for an hour etc.
4) Characteristics of dogs - love,loyalty, etc.
5) To give love yourself and recieve it.

Actually Dog's are a Terrible pet to have. thier always under your feet evertime you eat plus they thing thier the boss> Settle for a Cat they're much cuter

They are part of your family, you love them.
They will always love you. Loyal.
They do funny things to make you smile.
They beg and do things to pull at your heart strings.
They keep you warm at night.
I guess all be told they make you happy.

1. they would do anything for you.
2. loyal
3. adorably needy
4. cute
5. they are the most lovable thing that you will ever meet.
