Yes he was evil. But he was also smart. He convinced Eve that God was keeping something from her....free will. He told her that if she ate the fruit she would know right from wrong & that God was holding that back from her. Funny thing is, Eve & Adam already had free will. They just didn't know what sin was yet because they hadn't experienced it.
The tree was put there so that man would have 1 simple command to obey, to show his appreciation & subservience to God, as thanks for being provided a paradise to live in and having all of his physical needs met, including a perfect mate.
But since Satan was beautiful and vain, he didn 't want these new creatures God had made to worship only God, he wanted some of the action too, thus the snake, and the rest is history.
Why a snake ? Did you ever see a hippo try to hang from a tree ? =)

Up until "god" created Eve, the snake had only Adam to talk to. And he probably had little to say. Then after Eve was "created" the situation was much better for using his ability to speak. He was probably just messing with them, and had no idea of the far reaching consequences. How's that?

Misery (the snake, or satan in this case) , loves company. Ain't that the way it is now. I cant stand to be around miserable people. They hang out in groups these days and talk nothin' but negative.

Satan's motive for deceiving Eve was to cause her to disobey God and cause Adam and Eve's relationship with God to be over. He was jealous of God and still is. His main purpose on the earth is to keep those who have not come back to God through Jesus, away from Him and to pull those who do belong to God because of Jesus' sacrifice for them, away. Yes, Satan is evil and jealous of God. He never loved mankind and never will.

To foil God's plan to bring about a pure bloodline for the Messiah to come through. Eve did not eat an apple, she ate, or partook, of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, which was Satan. She told God, Satan 'beguiled' her, meaning she was wholly seduced,(understand?) thus impregnating her with his seed, being Cain. Abel was a twin to Cain, but Cain was fathered by Satan and Abel by Adam.

After Eve ate the apple she saw she was naked. this embarrassed her and she covered up. Have you ever been to a church on Sunday? I'm never sure if it is a church or a barn I am walking into. After ogling Lilith for so long I'm sure he just wanted to get Eve to cover up that muffin top.

Satan is described as the Father of Lies. The bible says he comes to steal, kill and destroy. Knowing his end (the lake of fire), satan wants to see as many people go with him as he possibly can. In the form of a serpent he lied to Eve, desiring to see them fall from God's grace. That is what he does even today, lying to people constantly, wanting to take them away from God any way he can.

The serpent represents evil.........his dishonesty is the epitome of evil.......Truly evil (thankfully a miniscule number) people fear truth and will go to extreme lengths to preserve the lie.
