Yes, it's very common...
It's your responsibility to make sure she isn't in a position to feel like she should become aggressive or to "protect herself and her babies".
With all of the anti- dog sentiment spreading around, someone could report you as having a vicious dog and take her .....or worse.

Yes, dogs get more protective when they are pregnant and especially after they have their pups.

Why the hell are you breeding a pit bull??? It just get's me sick to read that. Pit bulls are the most abused dogs around. There is NO WAY you can be assured that the pups will be going to good homes. AND with all the pits being put down (KILLED) in shelters because nobody wants to adopt them you have the friggin audasity to bring yet another litter of pits into the world. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!! Big time!

You are nothing but a rotten backyard breeder. The only reason to breed is for the betterment of the breed. What did you do to better this breed????? UGH!!!!!!!!! Why did you breed this litter? As a cash crop? Get a damn job and stop using your pet as a money making machine.

UNREAL!

Dogs do get protective when they are pregnant. My dog is the sweetest dog, but when she was pregnant she didn't want anyone she didn't know near her and when she had her puppies she chased a FedEx man down the street until he jumped into his truck- it was horrible because she is very well trained and never aggressive. Pregnancy messes with their emotions and they often become protective over their property since they will soon have their babies there.

Once the puppies are old enough she will lose her aggressive behavior.

Dogs do tend to get more nippy and more protective and want to be left alone in their own space more when they are pregnant. This may last through the puppies, but after that she will go back to her normal self. Don't let people tell you that it is due to her being a pit bull. I have raised and trained many dogs and even the so rated "family dogs" get this way when pregnant.
Just like us humans when we get pregnant, our hormones are crazy and we are crabby, snappy, and more moody at times...so it is with dogs.
