My HTB and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and doing all of the work. It may be a rude question but should we be buying our parents gifts?

Our parents can afford to help with the wedding it's just that my HTB and I are adults and want to do it ourselves.

Yes you should get them a gift, even if it's a small one. Just because they are not paying for the wedding does not mean they havn't dont alot for you over the years to help get you to this point.

I don't know whether my parents will help out in paying for my wedding or not... but either way I plan on getting them each a gift. They've put up with a lot over the years and took care of me for 18+ years, so I think it's the least I could do.

It's up to you and your HTB to decide. Maybe do something small for each set of parents? It doesn't have to be ridiculous, but even just the gesture means a lot. Maybe preset a budget for the gifts into your overall wedding budget... that's what I'm doing, so that way I know I'll have money set aside for it when the time comes.

Good luck to you! Congrats!

I think that if parents can pay for any part of the wedding, they should. (Mine didn't.)
If you have lots of money left over after paying for your wedding, maybe it would be nice to get them a small gift, but if the wedding is eating up all of your money, don't. A gift for the parents is one of these new things (like favors for the guests) that are making weddings ridiculously expensive.

I would maybe not so much get them a gift but give them a card or something special. You could even write in the card that once you are both married and have the pictures back from the photographer that you will have which ever one is their favorite blown up for them as your gift to them. You would have probably already done that but this way you could in a sense kill two birds with one stone.

I don't think you HAVE to get them anything. You can write them a nice card if you want. Just as they don't have to get you anything for your wedding.... I think so many ppl these days EXPECT gifts, I think it's crazy. A gift is always a nice thing to get, but it should never be expected.
