This goes beyond dance recitals, sports and any event along those lines. I am referring to simple events such as birthdays and ordinary holidays(mainly Christmas and Easter). They never show up for anything else. They are full of false promises and fill our children's head with wild ideas. Constantly, they have let them down with some useless excess. Some statements towards the children included: "Cousin so and so's party was so much more important than your rinky dink event. That's where my priorites were honey. Not with you! Besides, your mother is such a b***h. It's a shame that you are part of her. We can't help that..."

As far as events go(including Christmas and Easter); they never show. Hell, they don't call or write but find it amusing that the children waited by the phone or computer for an e-card. NO LONGER will I or do I allow this to happen.

All advice is MUCH appreciated. thanks for your time and efforts.

That relative doesn't need to be thinking I'm going to contact them for any special event.

This is hard to answer without knowing the details.

Consider this possibility.

Sometimes parents get so wrapped up in their child's activities, they blow events out of proportion. A child involved in several activities will have dance recitals and singing performances and sporting games and gymnastics competitions. Not everything is life shattering and it's hard for relatives to sort the important ones out of all the activities.

Nor does a child need her entire extended family cheering her on with every single thing she does.

That would depend on what the special event was. Did they know about this, or was is assumed they knew about it. Did they have something else going on and couldn't contact them, or was it to hard for them to get through to talk to them. There is all kinds of reasons, maybe they just forgot. Believe me, if this is the only thing that goes wrong, you are lucky.
