there is really no "average" cost but not having insurance will actually make your bill higher (insurance companies have cut deals with the hospitals to get a discount) probably anywhere between $5,000 up to $20,000 depending on what has to be done. you should absolutely get a copy of the itemized bill because sometimes mistakes are made on bills. my mom was charged for 2 epidurals but only received 1. definitely make sure you don't get over charged. also if you call the hospital billing directly and let them know that you are going to be paying out of pocket ask them if there are any discounts they can give (advice given on good morning america by their financial adviser) sometimes they will. also know that they can not send you to collections as long as you are paying a little at a time. if you pay just $10 a month your bill will be in good standing.
good luck!!

To have a baby in a hospital it will cost between 5-6 Thousand dollars. If you don't have insurance, check with medicaid to see if you qualify for their program, it pays all your Dr's appointments and hospital bills for having a baby. But you must meet their income requirements. Other options include having a home delivery with a midwife if you can't afford the hospital bill.

If you don't have insurance you need to get some. Find out what your state offers. In California its Medi-cal. Hurry. Don't delay.

$5,000 - $10,000 it all depends on how dangerous your pregnancy is.
If it's a normal pregnancy it can be about 8 grand. thats how much mine was with everything delivery, and even hospital visits where i never delivered early.

seriously, call and get quotes. Friends of ours did and saved about $4,000 bucks choosing one facility over another that was about 10 more miles away.
