what one is better

I think it depends on the individual person. Both medications are powerful painkillers. Not sure, but I believe methadone is a bit stronger than the oxycontin, therefore, harder to "kick". As both are effective in treating severe, chronic pain, you may want to try each one for a while to see what feels best for you.

Yes, oxycontin is better than methadone. Contrary to popular belief, methadone is sometimes used for pain relief, although its mostly used to help with opiate addiction, mainly due to its long duration.

There are a few reasons that oxycontin is better than methadone. First of all, both are prescribed for severe pain and for extended duration, but the difference is that oxycontin is meant to be an extended release narcotic, and the extended release mechanism makes it well designed for that use, since its designed to keep your pain relief at a constant.. Methadone isn't designed for that purpose, so, while its a drug with an extended duration it has nothing that controls its release, which means that the amount of it in your blood will fluctuate, and be a lot less stable. Methadone is also generally a lot more addictive, and it has actually been blamed for several fatalities due to the additionial cardiological effects.

Both are excellent pain medications (YES, Methadone IS used for pain...not just for addiction). Methadone was initially created for pain and it was found later it could also be used for heroin addiction.

Much depends on the person. For me, OxyContin did not work well. Methadone on the other hand was a great pain medication for me.

It is sometimes trial and error. Talk with your MD about his/her choice and go from there.

Good luck!
