You could be "judgment proof". Check your State's rules on what assets are exempt from seizure by crditors.

A judgement by default is still a judgement, just as if you'd contested and lost. The only way to get out of paying it is by declaring bankruptcy or simply waiting and hoping that the card company will eventually just charge it off.

Bankruptcy is pretty radical. Basically, your entire financial life has crashed and all you can do is start over from scratch.

Card issuers typically don't sue for judgement so if this one did, they're not likely to wait around and charge it off.

I'd say you're stuck with it. The advantage is that you're no longer hostage to their schedule; you can make your own. As long as you've doing it, they can't cause further trouble by placing liens against your property or garnishing your paycheck. As little as $5 a week shows intent to pay.

Can you prove that you were never served the summons? The only way to get out of it, is to get the judgment set aside. Chances are you will get a new court date and if the debt is yours, the creditor will get another judgment.

If this is your debt, you should find a way to settle it. Judgments are good for 10 years and can be renewed. They can attach your bank account, garnish your wages, or lein your property. Don't anything now, they'll just wait till you do.

Arrange an agreement with the credit card company, which will resolve the debt over time. Otherwise, the company has the capacity to place liens on your assets.
