Before I adopt this great lab mix I need to know if $300.00 for spay only - no shots or other procedures - is too much. I'm not cheap but I haven't had a dog fixed in years and have no clue as to what is a normal price range. If 300 is normal I won't be adopting as wow vet fees have really gone up since I had my last dog back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. I've called around and the only three in my area are all around the same price.

I paid $350 bucks to have my dog spayed, all the blood work, and her teeth cleaned and she is similar weight to a Lab, so
$300 just for a spay seems rather high.

Actually, that is close to normal. My regular vet charges about 250 for neutering, more for female dogs. I got a few more quotes around 300, but they were using a laser instead.
Have you checked the SPCA nearest your home? Even if it is somewhat of a distance, they often have "neuter scooters" that travel to other areas. My dog was neutered at the SPCA and it only cost 90. Also, check with your local animal control as they will probably have info on low cost/free clinics in your area.

That's not too unusual. I'm in England and work at an averagely-priced vet clinic, we charge £170 for a b itch spay, basic cost.
If you're adopting, why not get a dog that's already spayed? Plenty in shelters. If money's a bit of an issue though, it's pretty good of you not to adopt actually, most people aren't responsible enough to let this get in their way!!

Sounds like a lot to me. Here in Okla. (small town) it is $65 for a cat and about $90 for a small dog. Probably higher in other places. Some times they have spay/neuter clinics put on by various rescue groups.

I'm in the midwest US, and it's around $125 for a spay.

I was about £120.00 for my b i t c h to get spayed my friend was qouted £100.00 for her boy dog to get done.
I dnt know what that is in dollars though.
