I have recently started painting with oils and have heard and read about people painting oil on board. I have no clue what this is??? I use stretched canvases and have noticed that a lot of the paintings that I love are said to be painted on board. I would really like to do this but like I said--I dont know what it is. Anyone???

Thanks,
Amy

It is exactly what it says - oil paint on some form of board rather than stretched canvas. Artists have been using oil on board techniques for centuries. Pax - C

Oil on a piece of plywood board like you woud find at Home Depot. But remember to sand and prime the board first before you paint!

* Snigger * Indeed you could read it as the famous "Baby on board."-sticker.

Board is an easy to store medium that is used mainly for studies. There are highquality boards that rival canvas.

5 Pieces of board take the same space as 1 streched canvas (the thickness).

Board can be plywood or cardboard with some canvas glued to that.
