Not bad price. What about the spay? Ask them if they will offer a discount for that too.

I'm afraid I'm no Chi expert. There are plenty of Chi owners here who can give you good advice.

For San Francisco that is not bad. I live in Gilroy and the puppy plan was $255. The first, second and third visits are about the same. Exceptions being my pup got Frountline Plus for flea and tick control. The plan include a stool examination to look for parasites.
The third visit does not include rabies, that comes with the forth visit. The microchip is a 10% discount. I also get a 10% discount to get her spayed.
My Vet said all of this would be $450 -$500 otherwise.
So I would say because you live up in the high rent district that the $366 is pretty good.

As far as your Chihuahua shivering. They all do that. The little Chi I had did it all the time. They want to go back to Mexico where it is warmer. Do as I did get her a sweater to wear.

The price seems a little high but I live in Oregon and my vet didn't charge me for exams every visit. They only charged me for the first exam visit and they never charged for counseling. If I had questions, they answered all of them free of charge and even went over information about puppies and gave me a puppy starter kit.

I have two Chihuahuas and they only shake when they are cold or scared. I've read some people's answers about having low blood sugar levels but when they have that, they get lethargic and droopy. I haven't seen them shake for that reason.

My Chihuahuas are always warm and very comfortable so neither ever shake. The last time I saw my Chihauhua shake was the first day I brought him home and he was scared of my cats.

The puppy plan sounds good. Especially if it is at a vets office. Microw chip is $60- $70 plus each shot can rang from $10- $30 maybe even more. Also you get a examination for each visit which could be $100+ sometimes.

With your Chihuahua it might just be the dog. My friend has a tea cup and it shakes all the time too and she is fine.

Ok.. do yourself a favor, and go to your local farm supply store (tractor Supply, Southern States, etc.) and purchase the 5 in one vaccines there. They're about 5 bucks a shot, and if you can't stomach giving the shots, perhaps a friend can. Then, call your local shelter and see about rabies clinics and microchipping fees. Our clinics are $10 for the shot, and $20 for the chip.. so far, that's less than $50. You can also buy bordetella vacc at the store, and depending on your state, maybe even rabies shots. Bordetella is only really neccesary for boarding and dogs that get around other dogs a lot. So still, it's a lot cheaper to get all the shots on your own. You should, however, go to the vet once for a general check up, but as my vet charges $28 for this, I don't know what your vet is thinking. Usually, you can then discuss any concerns you may have at this visit. WE are your counseling.. lol. this plan is BS.

The plan sounds reasonable.

Many small dogs .. especially Chihuahua's... can have issues with low blood sugar... this is more prevalent when the puppy is very young. Most reputable breeders will not allow a Chi pup to go to its new home until at least 12 weeks of age. Your breeder should have informed you of this danger. You need to take your pup in to the vet... and I would also contact the breeder.

That sounds reasonable. Your Chihuahua might have low blood sugar, its very common in toy breeds. This is something the breeder should have discussed with you. Free feed her it will help, small dogs eat only a little at a time. You can also try giving her a little bit of honey. Remember when in doubt call her breeder or the vet. Good luck !

the vet bill is fine. A yearly vet bill for me with is the rabies, checkup, parvo shot and worm test runs approx $150.00 not including the heartworm medicine or any other testing.

chihuahua or any small breed will shake, usually its their nervous system and the fact that they are usually always cold. the shaking will never stop that is the way they are.

this trembling is called small dog shaker syndrome and it occures frequently in all small dogs.

please take a look at the link below, this is regarding small dogs and how to train them and so forth.

for instance it is harder to house train small dogs than large ones.

Vet fees vary by area/state/etc. Where I live this appears to be just a little less than if you paid as you went each time you visited the Vet.

Sounds about right cost-wise.

As to the shaking, Chihuahua's tend to be nervous and / or cold dogs - You should ask your vet about that too...

Edit - In SF that's a heck of a deal! Isn't everything in SF/Marin twice as expensive as anywhere else?! (I grew up just north of The City).
