She should be paid for ALL of the time she is with them. There is a good chance she won't sleep well anyway because she'll want to be there if any of the children need her. I'd pay the $180. If you split it, that's only $45 per child for the 22 hours. Not a bad price at all! If you only had one child how much would you pay? Maybe multiply that amount by 4, and you'll realise that $180 isn't that much!

It is because of the short term commitment. You'll find the same thing is true of those short-term babysitting places at some strip malls. They charge a lot, but only use them a few hours vs. all day every day. Keep in mind that the government looks at it differently as well. Daycare (caring for child so that parent can go to work or attend school) is taxed, while babysitting is not. My suggestion is to find out what the going rate is for the age group you plan to care for. Eventually, poster Leann will be found out when a parent attempts to get the child care credit. A tax audit is not a pleasant thing.

I think you do get paid to sleep when you have the responsibility for other people's children. Offer her less, like only $4 an hour for the 8 hours she will be asleep.

Pay her the $180.
1. That's probably what she thinks she will be getting. Trust me. She's figured out the hours also.
2. For your piece of mind, having somebody being there for you kids.

well her sleeping there watching your kids is still babysitting even if she is sleeping. So i would still pay 8 dollars an hour. Or if you dont feel confortable with paying her 8 dollars you could say between 11pm-7am or whenever your kids normally get up you could pay her 5-6 dollars.

Just my opinion, but daycare where I live is only $70 PER WEEK. This is just one night...On the other hand it is 4 kids. I would talk to her about what she thinks is fair.
