Ever since Sept 5th, when I went back to school, my neck hurts like hell all the time. Very tense. Why is this? What can I do?

Your backpack is too heavy. Make more frequent trips to your locker, make sure you have it on both shoulders, and carry your books in your arms if you need to. Your backpack should be no more than 15 pounds fully loaded. Most kids' backpacks are 30-40 lbs. So, go to your locker and carry your books.

Watch the way you sit when you read. I actually went through physical therapy for my neck. I started getting a really stiff neck and couldn't move it. I also had really bad headaches. I used to sit in bed reading and looking down at the book which can pinch the muscles and nerves in your neck causing you pain. Something that helped was one of the wrap around pillows for your neck. Good luck.

Sounds like a muscle spasm - your tension is transferred to neck muscle.
1] try sleeping on your back, with a pillow under knees to remind you to stay flat
2] use ice packs for 20 minutes, four times a day - lean against a chair back or lie down so ice is against neck - don't hold in place with hand
3] take ibuprofen several times a day
4] go to stretchnow.com.au/exercises/neck.htm. I do similar exercises every day, and at stoplights, and at the computer.

Take a pain reliever, get a neck pillow, go to the doctor if those things don't help.

Are you grinding your teeth or sleeping uncomfortably on the pillow? Try less pillows and/or massage of the jaws before you sleep. That can really help with tension pain.

that happened to me, too. i think i messed it up in weight lifting.

i went to the chiropractor and that definitely helped! now it's more of an annoying pain than a HORRIBLE pain like it used to be.
