Why do atheists in America like to mock at christians and forget to be polite?I get such answers as" you are stupid ", "you are an idiot" and so on..Do they think that after these words I won`t trust in God?. I`m a Russian woman, living in Russia, and our country paid too much -millions of christians were killed by atheists during communism time, but this terrible time has learned us to be tolerant to each other and I can`t understand why atheists in America can`t be tolerant either?

They like to harass. They cannot add anything fruitful since they have no spirituality or religion to talk about. They come here to get an ego high from beating up on others. They can only feel good by knocking someone else down. You have seen the same spirit and mentality in communism. Thanks for your courage and sharing.

Well, I have noticed that religious people are just as intolerant of atheist viewpoints, and mock just as much.

But probably it is because agnostics and atheists are more oriented towards scientific and logical thinking, and looking for proof in assertions.

Since religion is not based on science, proof, etc., and seem to be more myth than fact, it bothers those that are more logically and scientifically minded.

If there was some way for religious people to come up with any kind of proof to substantiate what they say, that prayer works, etc. then I do not believe that there would be the resistance that there is.

It is kind of the same with people who believe in ghosts, chupacabras, etc. Until they can come up with real evidence that what they say is true, then they are going to be challenged by the logically and scientifically minded.

But I have seen attacks both ways, and I really don't think it hurts for anyone to question people's beliefs. Especially if they are without any kind of proof.

"millions of christians were killed by atheists during communism time"

Man, I didn't know Russia was so cool. I know throughout time people have killed each other because they because they believed in a different magical man in the sky, but I've never heard of people getting killed by people who DON'T believed in a sky daddy.

I know that I can't change somebody's mind if they've decided that the earth is the center of the universe (like the catholic church did up until a few years ago) But for all the other people who are maybe not so sure, just maybe I can save them, and get them to believe in life BEFORE death. I think people should be more interested in the world around them and not retreat into their own minds with fantasy's of heaven and hell and other things that we've never seen and have no proof of.

I'm not against you, I'm trying to help you. I love Russia, I love your vodka and almost all the Russian girls I've seen are very cute. I just hope the people over there who are building new types of bombs and restarting some of the old military programs don't hate the USA because of what a handful of polititions are doing.

Perhaps there would be something similar in the USA. There atheists were mocked, rose to power, killed christians and now tolerate. In the US christians were being mocked, are rising to power and surely will discriminate even more against atheists, then something happens and become tolerant.

For your first question, well, our cultural backgrounds are different. You'd have to understand that most ppl have protestant/evangelical christian backgrounds than orthodox Catholicism of Eastern Europe. Also a great majority of atheists in the USA have been christians at one time (myself included) so we know some thing or another from the bible which helps while answering question posted here.

Besides, who'd answer your question if there weren't any of us here?

Atheist here: I can appreciate your position. You have some points, but from only one point of view.

You need to realize that some of us atheist are so strong in our views and our opinions because of our fear of theocracy.

The Religious Right I america are trying to force all Americans to be christians their way by getting people elected, judges appointed and taking over school boards. It is a well documented fact that they have a machievelian agenda to gain control over the minds of our children in order to advance their agenda.

We fear living under the murderous tyrany that christianity once had in Europe and your homeland long before communism. Christianity has a body count a 100 fold higher than Stalin's. Islam is fast trying to catch up and the Jews even have their murderous issues to deal with.

Also the Atheism wasn't the point in Communist Russia - Communism and Socilism were the reasons, power & control were the motivators.

They may have been atheist - but atheism wasn't their motivation - their politics and need for absolute control was. You should try to not confuse the two.

Atheism was a coincidence, the Church was seen as a competitor for power, control and the minds of the people.

Now neither were right, we understand the mistakes of the past and we try to learn from them. We have the clarity of mind to see the great harm that can come from fundementalist ideals like Christianity, Islam or Communism.

Look at the Communist state of North Korea - That is not Atheism, that is an invented religion like all of the others in which the reuler is God, just like many other asian cultures had seen.

I suggest you back up and take a look at the bigger picture, it is harder to see it when you stay inside your little space.

You're the perfect example of the kind of ignorance that I can't stand, you ask "why do atheists answer religious questions" then you say "no atheist answers". Exactly how the f$@* do you expect to find out why atheists do something if you aren't even asking atheists?

There are plenty of people on both sides who do not act respectably. Go and do some looking and you will find many christians who ask and reply to questions with similiar results.

Also, don't forget that Hitler was christian and he killed many, many people. Look in the news and you can quite often find a person who committed crimes in the name of christianity. As for atheists in the US, they are a pretty much peaceful lot. I have not read about any of them involved in major crimes. Some do commit crime but no more than any other group. There are even claims that the proportion of atheists to chistians in prison does not reflect the outside world. It looks like the average atheist in the US is less likely to go to prison than the average christian.

Also, many christians have made it their goal to push their religion on others. They want laws passed to promote their religion. They want to be able to discriminate against anyone not of their religion. They want special treatment for christianity. Not all christians are like this. I would not say that even most are like this, however, there are many of them like this. Sadly, there are many of them in power in government who want this stuff. Atheists come on here to show their point of view. If a christian has a right to come on here and try to promote christianity then an atheist has a right to come on here and promote atheism. Like I said before, both sides have jokers that you should just ignore. Some people will say the stupid stuff because they are stupid. That is basically it.

They do spend time in religious and spirituality because they get harrassed by christians and muslims everywhere else. This is the only way that they can vent without breaking the law. So you need to realize that.

You ask for atheists to show tolerance, but yet do a majority of the christians show tolerance? NO. remember that it is the mission of all christians to seek out the lost. That is not very tolerant.

And Finally, you want to complain about all the christians killed by communism. Well I think you need to reread history. Hitler was a born and devout christian. He worked with the vaticain and imposed christian dogma on all of germany. And how many people did Hitler kill? The Death camps of Hitler were used to kill jews, ( because he blamed them for christ's death), gypsys, communists, and any non-believer of christianity.

double check your dogma's history before you complain about things.

Christians seem to think that if they tell us we are going to hell, we will change our minds.

Somethings you should consider:

1. Search Y!A for "atheist;" this is where you land.

2. This isn't the "Christian" section any more than it is the "atheist" section. There are many other religions here too.

3. The opposite view of any topic is still a part of the topic.

4. Some of us actually enjoy reading and answering the silly questions believers keep asking us atheist. Don't ask us questions if you don't want us here.

Well, I don't spend all my time in Religion. I jump around answering a variety of questions. But, I interject when I feel I can give an answer. But, that's just me. I can't speak for everyone else.

Answering for myself, as an atheist i like to gain insight into how the religious think. I used to be Religious as i was raised such. I enjoy learning things even if they are not something that i agree with. I try my best not to put others down but i will admit that sometimes i reply in a negative way to what i perceive as a stupid thought or statement. Can you show me some proof that it was an atheist agenda that killed these millions of Christians?
