That will vary from state to state. Call your Medicaid office listed in the white pages in the blue section. They will be happy to give you that information and take your application should you wish them to do so.

Once upon a time, I knew this, having done all my parents financial work the last few years of their lives. It has been five years since I messed with Medicaid so I know it has changed. The best thing for you to do is call your local Dept of Human Resources or Medicare office and ask. There are a lot of conditions and ways to satisfy the financial part of it, if the medical need is great enough, and vice versa.

depends on which state you live in. Best idea is to call their office and ask. I'm in Texas..and 1 person= 1000$ max i could have in the bank monthly to keep my medicaid or foodstamps. Here they also take into account what year car you have and if its owned by you or if you are paying on it. selling a car to get more $$ in benefits will (in Texas) penalize a person for 6 months. No benefits

P.S.-lol, I dont type fast. so pardon me for seeming to copy others answers ;-) guess we all jumped on this one at once

different from state to state. you need to call social services for your area. they should be able to tell you on the phone.
family of three? having a minor child wouldd make a difference.

being a senior could make a difference. being disabled may help.

if you don't qualify for medicaid, ask if you qualify for any other program or help in getting utilities discounted or paid.
you may qualify for food stamps. there's a lot out there if you qualify. i don't. go figure.
