I was pulled over in VA for a dead inspection and I lost the ticket that the officer gave me. I went in and told them my name to prepay and they said that I wasn't in the system. I finally found the ticket so I went back and they still told me I wasn't in the computer. Finally they figured out that the officer had spelled my last name wrong. I missed my court date because of this error and they are saying that I'm still responsible. Is there any legal actions that I can take to get out of this ticket?

To get out of it? No. You need to pay it now. You missed your court date, that was when you had the chance to "get out of it". If you were unable to pay the ticket the right thing would have to gone to your court date.

I have been in the same situation. You will have to take care of it or they will issue a warrant. Contact the prosecuting attorney, City, County whom ever represents the issuing agency. Explain what happened and he or she will probably dismiss it. You will have to do this to get it out of the system.

Only if you killed the inspection sticker are you still legally liable. If the sticker committed suicide then you are off the hook.
