I will be getting contacts again(gave them up because i had a bad eye infection 2 yrs. ago) and i am on the go alot. Does anyone know if it's ok to use purell and then handle your contacts or do you have to use soap and water? Thanks for all your input ahead of time.

Well your not going to die if you use it, and it will kill some of the germs on your hands. The real fun begins when you put the contact lens in your eye. Get ready for a sharp and intense burning. This is because of the alcohol in hand sanitizers. You will probably end up just taking it out and have to let your eye calm down from the sting of the alcohol. Best bet is to find some soap and water.

I think if you're in a squeeze, Purell would be okay. However, Purell simply kills germs, it doesn't remove dirt and grime from your fingers. Soap and water would be best as it removes all the yucky stuff you don't want on your contacts as it could infect you eyes. Stick with soap and water.

Personally I would use real soap and water. The reason is becuase the purell might get rid of germs, but it does not wash off any dirt or grit or debris on your hands that might get on the lense and in your eye.

No No No and No... Purell has alcohol in it.. you don't want that on your contacts or in your eyes. Soap and water or nothing at all.

do not use purell or soap and water, both will irritate your eyes, to to your local optical shop and they will sell you the proper contact lens disinfecting solutions.

Agreed. I would not recommend the sanitizer, it would burn something fierce.

Soap and water is the best bet.
