The quote does hold true, although more listening could certainly be done here on R&S.

An open door is a necessary prerequisite if you wish to invite one in; the same holds true for persuasion. If you wish to have another enter into agreement with you, both ears and mind must be open.

If I may, I will compare persuading others to working in sales. I was in commission sales for many years, and I did quite well. My friends would say it was because I could talk to anyone. That was a small part of the whole. The reason I was a "talker" with my friends was because I spent all day long listening to others, trying to read between the lines. All of my questions were geared to get them to communicate with me. As far as R&S friends, I have nothing to sell. I appreciate feeling accepted, but many have seemed to accept me without a lot of conditions, as I do them.

Well considering how few people here listen to one another, and how few change their minds, it COULD be true.

Definitely. It would be nice to be able to read and learn about people's different viewpoints, if we could just be civil to one another.
