That's so sad.
Lots of areas I know, especially coastal areas don't have a gas line so everyone uses electric stoves.

I prefer gas stoves where the fire shoots up. That way you can better manage the heat amount. You can also light your cigarette with the burners.(I don't smoke though but I've seen people do it)

I agree with Jaz, a combination fuel (dual fuel) range is by far the best. A gas cook-top and an electric oven. The gas because it comes up to heat quicker and the electric because it is much more accurate temperature wise. I also look at convection ovens for quick (economical) baking and roasting.

A gas stove but an electric oven. Gas is a "wet" heat as opposed the the "dry" heat of an electric oven.

i learned on gas stoves, always had gas stoves in my parents' house. and now i have an electric...and i can't stand it!!!!!!!!
the heat in the oven is too harsh and burns the bottoms, i have the same problem with the stove top, the burning.
it takes way too long to heat up, all that on and off of the heat is basically like roasting on an open fire.

i think they're miserable and gas stoves will definately be required for my next aparment.

oh and when i first turned it on one of the elements exploded and caught on fire. apperantly it was just because it was old. scared me half to death.

Gas is by far better.

Electric always has problems with the temps. When you go to turn the burner down it takes too long to cool off. The only trick you can use is to lift the pan OFF the burner while waiting for the burner to cool down.

Get a gas stove if at all possible!

A gas stove and an electric oven

Gas. Definitely gas. One big advantage is being able to cook in a wok which doesn't work right on electric. Also, gas is cheaper than electric. It heats and cools much quicker and you have more control over it. It also looks nicer if you have a cook top.

Definitely gas!

Most definately GAS, I have had electric in the past and your right it is a pain in the butt. There is no regulating once the burner is extremely hot, your best bet is to start on low and work your way up so not to burn your food.

I far prefer gas; you can adjust the flame immediately. Also, electric stoves vary from stove to stove. Oven wise, I don't care as much but still prefer gas.

Gas is WAY better. I have a crappy apartment electric stovetop and it sucks.

I can't wait to have a decent oven that's gas. Then, I can make tortillas over the flame. Oooo I'm excited.
