My feelings about this issue can best be summed up by the classic quote from "Gone With the Wind"...

"Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a damn".

I don't care any more about this than if there were a Black Mormon, a Mormon Democrat, a Mormon Socialist, or a Mormon Gang Member (which I've known of some).

All these proper adjectives describe traits or identities of people and as we all know, we are all more than the sum of our parts.

This gentleman may be "openly gay". Do we know if he is sexually active? If he is, with which gender? (Just because someone is "Gay" doesn't me he exclusively has sex with men or that he has sex at all!).

Let's compare this to something I do: I frequent BARS! OOOO! Bad Mormon! right?

I however do NOT drink a single drop of alcohol (I don't even like to take nyquil). Why do I go? I go to socialize with some of my fondest friends of many years. I go to watch the Niner games. I go to this one specific bar because they have the BEST hot wings I've ever tasted.

Now if a church member witnessed me entering a bar, what would they likely think? .... Thats right! Something they SHOULDN'T! Don't ever assume.

Even IF this guy is sexually active. Who really cares? It's none of our business. There are likely around 500,000 gay Mormons (roughly 5% of the LDS population). There are even more Mormons that drink, that gamble, that work on Sundays, and the list goes on. We're commanded to "judge righteously". I don't think that includes gossiping about people, spreading rumors whether they be true or false, or condemning one's actions when that person isn't even included in the audience which hears the condemning. I have never met this man, I don't know his family, how he was raised, what his DNA says, the people in his life, etc etc etc. so I will leave this issue to he who can RIGHTFULLY judge it: Jesus Christ.

By the way, there are 8 openly gay men in my ward. Hello! It is San Francisco! LOL.

-----

Dave F: Last I remembered, people don't get excommunicated for being Gay. People get excommunicated for having sex with people of their own gender.

Christ taught that his Gospel was for the sinners and that the whole need not a physician. In other words, if you are perfect you don't need the gospel. However, knowing that we all sin and make mistakes, we need his Gospel. Are Mormons perfect? No, we make errors and mistakes too. But that is what the Gospel of Christ is for. To make bad men good and good men better.
So if a Mormon is not strictly following the Gospel, it does not mean he or she is a horrible person. But rather, it simply means that the person has some potential for change and improvement and hopefully that person is striving to make the change and improvements.
Mormon doctrine teaches that homosexuality is not of God and is a sin. It goes against the plan of salvation and the purpose of families. Again, it does not mean that Mormons think such a person is evil. It simply means that Mormons would have compassion on that person and (all others who are not living the Gospel completely) and that Moron hearts go out to the person and hope that he can follow the doctrine more fully.

Its so not a big deal. First off, there's LDS homosexuals. The church frowns on extra-marital sex, whether its hetero or homosexual. However, that being said, a lady whose daughter is lesbian wouldn't be held accountable for her actions at all.

As far as a Mormon who is gay on survivor? So? What's the difference between this or a catholic gay person, on survivor or any other religion?

As far as gays go, they are people just like you and me. We love them. Every single one of us sins, some are more open than others but we're supposed to love everyone.

How coincidental that the TV show, "Survivor" has a character playing a homosexual Mormon--all in the same prefacing year to the presidential nominations and then elections!

The show is merely another one on the full bandstand of gaining ratings and they know that the LDS religion is so controversial it sells tickets for their show to gain in popularity.

What's important to remember in real life is that any person having homosexual tendencies do not act on their impulsiveness and urges, having the primary thought of the law of chastity. Of course, television producers and script writers enjoy tantalizing the public with characters having religious flaws or immoral ethics that affect certain religious groups.

Moreover, I never watch the show, "Survivor" so any other comment would be moot.

Anybody from any group or self proclaimed persuasion can say they are whoever they think they are and if they want to get on survivor or any show and tout what they believe or think they are it is constitutional. Anybody who is so insecure about their religious affiliation or beliefs that think that will cause some crises in their life or their peace can lump it. And any private organization that is not accepting federal funds can include, exclude or disfellowship anybody they want from their organization whatever the critcism. Anything that is not illegal is ok, no matter who thinks it is immoral or offensive. And some things that are illegal shouldn't be.

I knew someone that was Mormon. Her daugter is homosexual, and she was worried about both her and her daughter being excommunicated from the church. According to her, there was a good chance of that happening.

He has every right as anybody to be on TV.

What ever he does do not affect the church doctrine in anyway.

Who gives a rip! And who watches that garbage anyway? If he claims to be a mormon and gay, he has probably been excommunicated.

I would rather read a book than watch survivor.
