I can understand people not believing in any gods, somepeople need to see proof before they believe in something, and thats fine.
I can understand anyone believing in gods and taking this on faith, I am one of those people myself.
Could someone please explain to me though, how some people believe in one god, but refuse to accept the possibility of other gods.
NOTE: I am not asking if gods exist, that is for each person to decide for themselves, what I want to know is, if you believe in one what makes you so sure there are no others. Try to answer this without using the bible, because those of us who believe in many gods do not believe in the bible.

I think it is as simple as this, our religion shapes our world view. The bible is so ingrained in christian beleifs that i think it is really impossible for them to exmaine any prospective that does not mend with thier beleifs. A question for you thouhg, do you belief that all gods are really seperate or part of the same force and that all the different gods are just various mainfestations of one energy source ? (Personally thats how i look at it and if had to pick between do i think there is one god or many i would choose one. Hell though, god does technically have 3 forms even under christian beleif

Sure, Diane. You asked another question about, why do I believe the bible is the word of God. My answer to that question is pretty much the same answer to this question. And dear, a Christian cannot answer a question about God or Jesus without bringing the bible into it. That is the foundation of our faith, His word.

If the bible is the inspired word of God, and if God is not man that He should lie, which is one of the verses in the bible, that means I go by what the bible teaches exclusively. If another belief teaches something opposite of what the bible teaches, I will believe the bible over that other teaching.

Jesus Christ said He was the way, the truth and the life and that no man comes to the Father but by Him (John, 14:6). Therefore, there cannot be any other path to salvation if this is true.

The bible also teaches, time and time again, that there is only one God, not many gods. False gods, yes, not true, real ones. I realize millions of people believe differently, but since you asked why I believe this, well....there it is.

They will use the Bible, but what they seem to miss about it is the Bible claims there are other Gods. They will say "but it means man-made Gods" yet the Bible doesn't state that. The only talks about man-made idols (the Cross, for instance, is a man-made thing which Christians use to focus on during prayer, etc... that is considered an idol according to the Old Test). It states NO graven images... it doesn't add "well, except for those things mankind uses to mean Me." lol

I don't think many of them can come to the point where they place themselves in other people's shoes. They can discount all other Gods, but still wonder how Atheists can discount theirs? This is what it is meant when we say they are Narrow or Close-minded. They see only what they wish to see and don't take into account how others view it or try to see it from their point of view. Instead they just scream "you're wrong" and envision people like us going to hell because we don't see it the way they do - Not that we haven't seen it from that point of view, but we just simply don't take their point of view as our own. I think for many it's a popularity thing - if they can add #'s to those who believe like them, then that somehow makes them more right than others. Yet, this is wrong if Pagans are the majority or Atheists, etc.... according to them.

A lot of the people who think this way, who wear blinders... it's really no use in even trying to have a civil conversation with them. The circular reasoning they use has made them dizzy to the point that they can't see past the blur.

The reason why they believe in it is because they have been brain washed since birth to do so, and have been threatened with eternal fire if they reject it once they have been indoctrinated into it.

Why was it made up? It was made up by men, who wanted to have a MALE monotheistic system, which rejected the pre-existing polytheistic beliefs, and in particular, eradicating any suggestion of a Female Deity. Men were then and are now totally jealous of a woman's ability to make people out of their own bodies, and since they never can, they made up this whole bs about one god only and only male at that.

that's why. good question

Blessings,
Lady Morgana)0(

PS the Christians will flatly reject what I just wrote. They have to. Can't risk going to hell. Too bad they will spend their whole lives thinking they have to walk around on eggshells around a very ill-tempered god like the one that men made up thousands of years ago.

I don't believe in other gods than God because my God is all thats necessary. When I think of other gods, what point would they serve? To bring rain? To help me get rich? Other worldly gains? My God created everything, keeps everything going, talks to me, and saves me from sin which I commit by breaking His universal rules. I don't need any other gods because I got the all powerful one.

You don't believe in the Bible? I can see one on my desk, right over there... I can send you a pic if you want. Its real!

I am a Christian and have several references in the Bible which tell me that God is One. Jesus said it himself. So that's why I understand that God is One, and also that He would not share the universe with another God.

There is only one true God and that is God our heavenly father!! Even if there were other gods, it says in the Bible that YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME!!! This is 2nd of the Ten Commandments! Exodus 20:1-17.

What if a person thinks of "God" as the ultimate truth of everything that is.
That person could not believe in more than one of that.

I have to use the Bible because that is the basis for my belief. I believe that there is only One God.
