The box is unchecked, but I still get a message that says it's read-only.

Also, I'm the administrator of the computer, so I should have full control of the computer files. (Right?)

1. File-->Save as. Check the options to be sure it's not flagged as read only.

2. Your PC may think the file is in use by someone else. Clean up your hard drive, and try again. See:

THe above comment -- i created a file from a pervious read only file now I want to take off the read only on the second file -- how do I do it

Does it also ask you for a password? It may be a protected file rather than just a read-only file. If it asks for a password you must know the password that was used to protect it to unlock it.
