She is the most incredible little thing....she's 9 weeks old, had her first shot (and booked for her second). Is there anything special I should know about Beagles, their disposition, behaviours, etc?

First of all, congrats!!! I'm so happy for you=D Pups are a joy.. NOw about the Beagle:

Feeding Requirements
The beagle is not a picky eater and can be fed dry or tinned food once or twice a day. They do have a tendency to become overweight, so do watch the amount of food they are given.
Other Expenses
Beagle puppies will cost around £700 - £850. They are fairly inexpensive to keep, requiring no out of the ordinary extras.
Lifespan
9 - 15 years
Average Litter Size
7
General Physical Description
They are sturdy and bold little dogs who are the very essence of quality. They have kindly expressions and are compact and athletic. They stride out freely, covering the ground well. They have short coats which are dense and weather-resistant.

Size Category Small
Weight Height Range Both dogs and female mothers measure between 33 to 40cms at the withers and weigh between 8 to 14kgs. In America the Beagle is recognised in two different sizes, 13inches (not exceeding 13 inches at the withers) and 15 inches (not exceeding 15 inches at the withers).

Ailments As a breed the Beagle appears to be relatively healthy, they do not seem to suffer from many ailments.

Intelligence
Training must begin early or the beagle can get out of hand and indulge in its favourite habits - overeating and making a mess. Beagles do like to please their masters but must clearly be shown what is required and the owner must be firm and consistent. If one does not begin early and continue with firm commands, then this breed can be very hard to housebreak and will bark to an annoying degree.

Energy High
Overall Exercise 60 - 80 minutes
Distress Caused if Left Alone
Personal Protection Low
Suitability As Guard Dog Medium
Risk of Sheep Worrying High
Tendency to Bark High
Ease of Transportation Medium
Level of Aggression Low
Compatibility With Other Animals Low
Suitable For Children High

General Character And Temperament - Beagles are good natured dogs and will get along with most other dogs. They are bred to be pack animals so will take their membership in your family pack seriously. Beagles love children but need to be exposed to cats at an early age in order to develop good relationships with felines. You will find the pet Beagle cruising around the house nose down. He is making an olfactory map of his territory. He will check the area periodically and if something is amiss, he will give voice. In this way, the Beagle is a good watchdog, although, once the burglar is indoors, the Beagle may prefer a game with him.

Coat Length Short/Smooth
Grooming Requirement Every Day
Trimming None
Requires Professional Groomer
Grooming This breed is easy to keep, as the only grooming it takes is a quick, daily brush to remove dead and loose hairs. One slight problem is that Beagles do love to roll in foul smelling material. Luckily, they are quite easy to bathe. Their tendency to eat foul matter is not as easily dealt with. It is recommended that you use the doggie toothpaste regularly! The ears should be checked on a regular basis to ensure they are clean and free from infection.
Colour Beagles are most commonly seen as tricolours, that is black, tan and white. They are also seen in the other hound colours.
Shedding Moderate

A Beagle is a great dog. Snoopy is about 4 1/2 years old and has never been a problem. He loves everyone.
My other dogs, a Chi/Rat Terrier mix and an APBT will bark if they hear anything they don't like, a car door slamming a block away. Snoopy only gets involved if it closer to home. Then you get the hound baying which is pretty loud.
He is the clown of the bunch, always doing something. Here is the best shot I have of him:

Yes, that is my bed.

You cannot help but but give in when they beg. Those big long ears and big sad brown eyes, who can resist.

You got a great dog, enjoy!

Exercise.. if you have a treadmill teach the puppy to use it.. (it will be helpful for when you can't take walks).. train it early not to pull on the leash, then learn how to use a bike or rollerblades to walk it.. they have a LOT of energy.. even when they don't seem like it... if they don't get it out they tend to tear things and swallow anything.. (it's not normally a problem if they get the exercise)

One person already mentioned it but they DO climb fences.. faster than you'd think.. mine has done it numerous times when someone else put him out..

Just do a bit of research.. but overall they are good dogs.. beagle proof the house though.. anything that smells like food must be where the dog cannot get it.. (their nose directs them, so it's not just a matter of training.. if you are not in the room the nose takes over)

Perfect question :) Beagles are definitely unique when it comes to behavior. They are fearless, vocal and tenacious. Keep her occupied! Beagles are very smart and when they get bored they have a tendency to chew. (such as, chewing a hole in the fence and escaping) Keep in mind that they are hound dogs and a ruled by their noses, so they can come across as a little distracted or stubborn when you're outside with them. They have a HUGE bark (well, it's actually a roo, you'll find out) and they love to talk.
Have fun with her :)

p.s they also like to snuggle under the covers.

Wow you just jumped right in with both feet without testing the water.

Beagles can be difficult and require a lot of attention. You need to make sure your fence is completely secure everyday before you let her out. You turn your back pup will be gone.

Beagles can go either way but usually they are very good with children and other dogs. Cats and critters may be another issue.

Beagles are such great dogs....omg I love them. I had two growing up ...now I have a Jack Russell. But beagles are so sweet and wonderful dogs around people of all ages.

They can be really stubborn and they love to eat. So one thing I would definitely do...is just give him dog food ....absolutely no people food. With their love to eat....they can easily can weight. So keep her trim and well-exercised. As soon as she has all her shots, take her to training classes and the dog park to socialize her. They are the best...so enjoy!!!!

Beagles are scent hounds and will follow their nose. Make sure she's on a leash or in a securely fenced yard at all times. Because if she catches a particularly strong scent, she'll follow it and wander off.

they tend to be quite vocal - especially around other animals. Very good disposition, and great family pet, but you may have a hard time getting them to keep the barking down.

not to be rude but that is something you should have looked into before getting the dog. i can tell you that beagles can climb fences so please be warned to keep track of your dog. beagles being a hound dog also become very one tracked with their thinking if they smell something good, they won't listen to you just follow their nose. also they have very poor road sense.
