They are very close in beliefs to us (Baptists) except for one specific area: The sabbath....

Thus the name "seventh day"

They are ademant about the sabbath being on Saturday.

But other than that.....they believe in Jesus Christ's death, burial & resurrection for the redemption of sins. They hold to the trinity truth. They believe in Christ as both God & man. So as far as I'm concerned and according to Scripture, they are my brothers & sisters in Christ.

After some study of the SDA position in so far as Deity is concerned, I am favorably impressed. The followers are well familiar with the Bible, which is something I have not found in other belief systems. They seem to be following the words and teachings of Christ, with out exceptions thus far. I have found the Pastors to be a little remote in individual contacts. Granted most of the more popular ones are up to their collective ears in preparing - producing video's, books and special "Camp Meetings". However I am not certain they have a "sense" of relating to the individual in a low profile attitude. One on One, I have only found a few SDA members which would communicate with me on that basis. As such there is an underlying question in my mind about their goals. Another item which is bothersome to me, is the reference so much of the time to Ellen G. White. She seems to be almost revered as a Prophet, and the scriptures warns against, "many whom will come saying they are prophets or even Jesus himself in the latter days".

Since they are teaching these are the latter days??? Ellen seems to me as being potentially a false prophet. I am still unclear about that matter.

As a whole the SDA seem to have it down just about right, the Saturday Sabbath and such. Perhaps the best way I can explain it is I am watching closely and indeed favor what I have seen - read thus far

They are a Christian church, somewhat like others who take minor doctrinal issues and have built a whole sect around them, namely the Sabbath Day worship vs the Lord's Day worship and the End Times. Hopefully, though, they are preaching in the main the saving Grace of Jesus Christ and the importance of repenting, believing in Him, and covenanting with Him for Salvation.

Later comment: I didn't know the SDA preached Ellen White. I thought that was Christian Science.

I really don't think much about the SDA. I know that you hold some doctrines that I do not agree with. But the few SDA's that I have met were very nice people.

I don't know any SDA's. From what I've observed, the public perception of them is that they are a fairly harmless minor sect of Christianity. They don't bother me, I don't bother them.

Are you just asking for an opinion?

If yes: Then they're a bunch of crazies

If you actually want something a little less personal: All religions are fundamentally equal in that they provide a set of rules and governances for people to follow.

Jesus Christ is our Sabbath, every day, forever.

If you set one day of the week aside to honor as the Lord's day then what does that say about the other six days?

Honestly, I consider it a Christian sect, outside the mainstream but definitely within the pale.
