A slice of white bread and a tablespoon of butter is 170 calories.
A small potato with an ounce of cheese is 225 calories.

cheese on mashed potato is more fattening because of the starch in the potato, and the fat in the cheese. Try using whole grain bread instead of white bread for your toast, and that will make it even less fattening.

If you want to lose weight, the healthiest way to do it is a sensible diet and exercise program. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain cereals, breads, chicken and fish, instead of red meat, low fat cheese, and 2% or 1% milk, is a good start. Stay away from the fast food places, and junk foods like potato chips, candy, soda, cookies, and that sort of thing. Eat 6 small meals a day, instead of 3 larger meals, and that keeps your blood sugar more stable, so you don't feel like you are starving. And exercise, exercise, exercise! We American's are the most obese sedentary people in the world, because we love to eat fast food, junk food, and sit on our lazy butts in front of the TV.

stay away from the fad diets, because you will lose weight on them, but you will gain it right back and then some. The yo yo affect is very hard on your metabolism. Eating healthy and exercising may take a little longer, but is so much better for you, and you will keep the weight off, as long as you continue to do so. It's a lifestyle you have to adjust to if you want to stay thin and healthy.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

You can eat what ever you want as long as they are small portions, and you are working out. That's how you lose weight.

To answer questions though, the toast would technically be better for you. Less carbs than the potatoe. The cheese and butter are pretty close to the same fat content. If you stick to toast, you'll drop weight fast, but it's not very filling.

Cheese on a mashed potato. White potatoes are very high on the glycemic index, which means your body releases a lot of insulin to digest them (and insulin causes your body to store extra calories as fat). You also have a lot of fat in cheese -- usually more than you have in butter in a standard serving. Your best bet is whole wheat or whole grain toast with butter. And if you can stand sweet potatoes, try eating them instead of white potatoes (they're not as fattening and they have a lot of nutrients in them).

L.O.L. They are BOTH horribly fattening. Don't go near either.!!
If you want to lose weight then aim to lose 2 lbs a week, More will set your body into defense mode and then your matabolism will slow down. Salads without supermarket dressing. Tuna. Raw Wholmeal Pasta.
Greens. Vegetable and Fruit.

Bread is fattening. Pototo is fattening. Cheese is fattening.. Butter is fattening.
Get the picture ?

To me this is sort of a strange question. Is this all you will be eating? Neither is really great for a diet. Of course I don't believe in dieting, so maybe that's why it seems a strange
question. Changing your way of eating is the best way to lose
weight. A life time of change! Potatoes are very high in carbs.
Carbs are high in calories. Bread is the same. Any starchy food is full of calories. Maybe you can pick up a pamphlet for a diabetic. It will give you very good guide lines for a low calorie diet. Good luck.
