There are many ways, but each individual is different.
You have the standard; read your bible, pray, witness and have fellowship, but different situations require different responses.
Discouragement will come, and the same: God can use many different forms of encouragement, from worship and music, to preaching, to fellowship, to having a friend pray with you, to if you're married, your spouse is there for you.

Great book. I've got a sticky note with the five methods of facing my Goliath (past, prayer, priority, passion, persistence) sticking right to my monitor.
Every day before work I sit in my car and read the bible, then listen to a good song (my particular favorite at the moment is It Is Well by Mark Roach). Then I thank God for the possibilities of today, pray for my family, friends and enemies, and my church.
When I get discouraged, I find that diving back into His word brings me back to being content. Phillipians is a great letter for restoring my faith and happiness. I also find that spending time at my church with the youth in the congregation restores my energy.
I've also found that talking to othe people helps, usually my wife or other friends.
Take care, and God bless. Great question.

the only way to nurture any relationship is to make time for it. Make time for God everyday and use it to read the Word and talk to him. When I get discouraged I use a simple three step process:
1. Scream at God... Get all that frustration out into the open.
2. Talk my issue over with other believers
3. Read the Word

ok these are sites about my faith and can help you learn more about nurturing your relationship with God and detatchment, and very important think that many people find very difficult to do, and it can cause burn out, and dispair, and for you to feel discouraged aswell.
Now I never get discouraged about my faith because I set goals that are attainable, I find most people have un realistic expectations, and burn them selves out.
as far as nurtuiring, praying daily ( talking to god)
meditate daily ( listening to god)
being active in the faith by participating in Feast, Study Circles, Ruhi Courses, Devotionals, Whatever is happening.
Offering to host events at my home such as childrens Classes, prayer breakfasts,
Going on Home visits, offer service to my community
Reading Gods Writtings
These are the best ways to maintain a good spiritual connection with God deepening in the Faith
and Detachment.
What is detatchment?
Well you need to realize that NOT everything is up to you,
If you set a goal and its not attained why ? What is the next step, should you feel bad about it, ( Just research this aspect on the sites they'll offer a better more indepth perspective on the subject
Hope my sites help you
Best of luck
Meg

You nurture it by talking to him on a regular basis. Stay in prayer. This developes a strong relationship. When you are discouraged this is even more important. To fellowship with him will ease your problems because you are inviting Him to be a part of the problem. To Pheonix--- its just life. Life is mundane, you will get discouraged, God knows this, it is why he tells you to draw near to him.

I spend time with him, Its like any relationship, if you dont nurture it, it will die. When I am discouraged I tell him, and I ask him to show me people in the Bible who faced similar situations, and how they got through it. I also have friends pray for me. God Bless

I maintain my relationship with God by fellowshipping with others who share my faith and beliefs. I also spend time journaling my thoughts, prayers and/or revelations to Him. It's pretty much therapy for me. And whenever I get discouraged I'll sometimes look back at past journal entries to see how God stood by me and helped me through my trials and tribulations. Furthermore, I'll surround myself with fellow believers who remind me that God loves me and has a plan for my life even though I may not always understand His ways.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
~Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version)~
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. "
~Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)~

well in order to get closer to God you must SEEK Him. 1) read is word and learn whats pleasing to Him. 2) talk to Him! would you want your friends to ignore you? 3) love on Him by worshiping Him! He loves to be loved! i have found that when im discouraged i go to Him all the more! praying and singing songs of praise to Him! it always brings peace to me when it seems the world has came against me.

I pray everyday. I also study the bible. When I am discouraged, I just throw my hands up in the air and say "God I can't do it. I am frustrated and angry and confused and discouraged. Just take it all from me, please." And He does. I ask Him daily to lead me down the right path and help me to stay disciplined daily. So I will not fall into temptation.
