It seems like I exercise like crazy, eat pretty healthy for the most part, but no matter what I still have the ring of fat around my waist. Is there anything, short of liposuction, that I should be doing that can truly get rid of this 40 yr. old male spare tire?

tyically the spare tire is the last to go, keep exercising ( high repetion stuff not weight lifting) eating a balanced diet and it should come down. For those of us in the 40's our metabolisim is not like it was in our 20's.

Yes, regardless of where you store excess fat, it can be addressed by consuming fewer calories and/or burning more calories. You need to keep at it, however, and make it a lifestyle not a short term program. If you are not losing fat, your energy balance is still off.

As we get older, we are more likely to store fat around our middle, which is a significant health risk. Regardless of how much excess fat you have, fat stored around your trunk increases your risk for heart disease, diabetes and many other life threatening illnesses. It would be great for your health to lose the 'tire'. If you re not getting results, you might consult a doctor or a dietician.

If you are already ill, for instance with type 2 diabetes, it makes it harder to lose but even more important.

As you get older it is harder and harder to lose the fat. If you have a stressful job this will add to the mix and make it harder to lose belly fat.

It's possible that the exercises that you are doing are not the most effective ones. For example: even though everyone does crunches, crunches are not nearly as good as push-aways or the bicycle. So if you have been spending time doing crunches--change to the bicycle.

Are you doing any weight training? Even if you are not looking to build muscle weight training will help burn the fat better then any type of walking or jogging. Try to add a bit of weight training--even if it is with resistance bands instead of weights.

Good luck!

You can exercise all you want, all you will get is 6-pack abs under a layer of fat.

Aerobic exercise 4 days a week, (my choice would be walking 45minutes/3 miles) every other day strenght training on the ab muscles. Check your posture/breathing.

cut your calorie intake by 33%

Cardio. Cardiovascular training burns fat, and although you may have lose skin there, it will not be a health threat and if you wanted it gone it would be tons of ab exercises/plastic surgery, but intense running or swimming will get rid of it.

Liposuction is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Tour2india4health Consultants .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Tour2india4health Consultants is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
