Is it fair to say that atheists and somewhat less ''prominent'' (someone has gotta give me a better word) religions are more open-minded??

Atheists are open-minded in wanting to believe they are above the system. They find content through believing they have this rare sense of "knowing" God doesn't exist. They find pleasure and a sense of higher freedom in thinking they don't have to obey anything. In thinking, "religious people are sheep, and are restricted in thought and action," makes them feel more secure about their lives. They are the types of people who look through a Bible to pick out ideas they can't really understand on the surface, and make it into some kind of irrational argument. They dismiss order and principle all throughout nature and the universe, and believe it to be something "that just happened." Deep down inside, through the thick layer of denial that blocks their clarity and truth, they know. In the end everyone is responsible for their actions and ultimately, their respect and gratefulness towards God and the free life He has chosen to give to them.

You will find truth through humility and a sense of appreciation toward life. Atheists generally share a common bond, and that is they exalt themselves.

There's no one single mold for atheists - some are open minded, some are closed minded, and some fall in the shades of grey in between.

As a Catholic looking in from the outside, I don't think of atheism generally to be a particularly open minded philosophy, since it largely precludes something that cannot actually be falsified. But it is also no less open minded than many religions. It is what it is - a way some people have of trying to achieve a decisive conclusion on some big questions.

Both atheists and members of less prominent religions are just as open-minded (and, of course, just as closed-minded) and non-atheists and members of prominent religions.

Open-mindedness has nothing to do with religion itself but rather the individuals own education, critical thinking skills, and natural inclination towards conservatism and liberalism (liberals do tend to be more open-minded than conservatives, but as much is essentially mandated by the very name).

Edit: As evidence that no particular group is more open-minded than others, look at the answers given. The more closed-minded the individual the more likely they are to claim definitively that the group they belong to is more open-minded than others.

I would say no. They are just as closed minded as the rest of us. They have a belief system (lack of belief) and that is what they live by, just as I have a belief system I live by.
I think followers of any religion (and I am saying atheism is a religion to many) can be closed minded or open minded. It just depends on the person, not the belief system.

Yeah, properly Larry, I dont imagine youre putting too a lot idea into it, are you? I mean, in case you went to the vehicles section and spoke back to a question on a transmission project with suggestion about the thanks to fix a bike tranny, you'll get an same thumbs down, wouldnt you? properly, in a question on evolution, God doesnt belong interior the reaction both. So, in an honest question on evolution and its mechnisms, you should both answer with a clinical reaction or no longer reply in any respect.

No more so that the rest of the beliefs. Atheism holds no special place in open-mindedness.

I know many people on both sides and it is equal on intolerance and closed mindedness.

Intolerance is not bound by beliefs. And yes, Atheism is a belief.

Not necessarily - but generally speaking, sure.

(BTW - I think "prominent" is an OK word here, but you could be more specific - "more open-minded" than who? I assume you mean the Christians.)

There are atheists who are blockheaded bigots, every bit as intolerant of alternative PsOV as the most insulated "religious" headcase. But "atheists as a class" aren't all working off a black-and-white dogma, as Christians are. Atheists are free to accept the conclusions of science, e.g., without checking to see whether they contradict the cherished opinions of Bronze Age savages.

It would have to do more with the individual as opposed to their beliefs. Generally speaking yes, I do believe atheists are more open minded, due to the fact that they don't allow dogma to dictate their reality.

Atheists, not a chance...some other religions, perhaps...agnostics are the most open minded.
