....and then try to start a religious debate??? The Bible isn't meant to be taken in context. Stories have different meanings other than the obvious. That's why people discuss these verses and stories with others to recieve different points of views, or just how others interpereted the story. You did say fundamentalism, so open the mind a little understand instead of argue.

I don't know if you have read the Bible and are asking now want am I supposed to do with what I have learned or are asking if I read the Bible what can I expect to learn?

There are times when things are confusing and that is why there are other translations using the language of the people. Different parts of the country say things differently than people in your region of the country. British English phrasing is different than USA phrasing.

There are times when a verse or verses I don't get the meaning of; and so when in Sunday School class, I can ask and someone may and usually does know. Some times I ask the preacher.

Sometimes events in my life will bring a meaning to the scripture that I didn't have before.

You can knit pick any book to death or you can be open minded to see if there is anything you can glean from it.

Ask people and preachers, and teachers questions. SEEK and you shall find and KNOCK and it will be opened to you.

The Bible is like gold and precious gems; YOU have got to dig. The Bible is a LOVE STORY because; before the foundation of the world was laid you were loved. It's in there and you are the archaeologist; you have got to DIG.

YOU have got to dig and scratch and hunt for this precious info and ask. ARE YOU up to this challenge or are you going to wimp out because it is to much of a challenge to you? I pray you don't wimp out because you may surpass me and I will be having to ask you or other people will be learning from you.

Reading the Bible is only a part, hearing the message of God's word is important, and none of those thing will do you any good if you don't believe and trust God for what He said.

That might be called Bible fundamentalism, but to me it's the life of faith.

There is a difference between someone reading the bible to seek God and between someone reading it to just put it down. Jesus said " Seek and ye shall find." One of the ways to find Him is through the bible. And reading the bible can be one of the most pleasurable, relaxing, educating, eye-opening, wonderful things that you can do when you have a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Then you might be reading it the wrong way.

Start with Phillipians in the New Testament. I just finished it during lunch, found it very rewarding. It brought me contentment.

The bible isn't a list of do's and dont's. It's a love story between you and the person who made you.

Then if you have questions about what you've read, ask them. If only there was a forum where one could do that...

No, fundamentalism is based on the idea that the author actually said what he meant.

Crazy idea, I know. Who actually says what he really means?

Perhaps you are confused because you are unaware of the cultural background of the author, so you don't "get" his figures of speech; or maybe you just don't like what the author says, so you pretend not to understand.

find a good study group that will take the words of the bible back to their origins so that you can understand. Learn to rightly divide the word and say a prayer to God that he will give you understanding and wisdom in his word every time you open it to read. There are many useful tools you can use to study as you would with any subject.

Read the Bible for yourself-make your own decisions regarding the stories-think of it as a spiritual guide and teaching book-not the "word" of God as men wrote it and assembled it. READ everything you can get your hands on also that may give you insight into spiritual growth and use what works for you. We are all here to grow spiritually-I think that process is as individual as we are.

1 Corinthians:11-16. The words of life that God gave us are not understood with our mind only, but with our spirit in tune with our mind. if we allow our mind only to interpret the words of a God who is spirit and not flesh we will not understand it. The writings of the ancient Egyptians that we know as hieroglyphics were very confusing until Napoleon discovered what is known as the Rosetta stone. With this find men were able to "decode" this Egyptian writing that used symbols. The spirit of a man, which is the spark of life, has to be in tune with God for us to understand the Truth of His words. The underlying theme of the Bible is that God loves us and wants us to be part of Him. This is why He created us, to fellowship with Him and be part of him as we are with our children. If we try to figure Him out with our flesh, we will fail. Our spirit quickened by God is the "Rosetta stone" that enables us to understand His words and their true meaning. Not all people need to understand everything about the Bible, but, when you come to know God as some people do, you want to learn more of Him and what He as for us
