my kitten started a new thing with her dry food last night- scooping them one by one out of the plastic bowl, playing with them and eating them.

Is this a sign she doesnt like her bowl or was she just being extra playful?

She's just playing!! It's normal. As long as she's eating it doesn't matter !!

Some kittens and cats do this. Mine actually scoops them out and plays with them, without eating them. If it is bothersome, I would suggest setting a feeding time, and once she is done eating, take the remaining food away and hide it until the next feeding time. Keep in mind that kittens need to eat more frequently than cats, so you should make it available to her more often. She will probably outgrow this behaviour eventually. Also, try to provide her with other toys. Mine loves a foil paper ball, he carries it around in his mouth and then plays soccer with it!

my cat used to lie down and scoop his dry food a piece at a time, let it fall to the floor then eat it.

he would do this with his water too. he would lie down then dunk his paw into the bowl and lick off the water.

just a quirky thing they tend to do. nothing to worry about. and as long as she is eating the food, don't worry.

My older cat rarely ever eats out of the bowl, she does the same thing. Its nothing to worry about.

She was just being extra playful. A lot of kitties do this.

make sure the bowl is big enough. cats dont like their whiskers to rub against the sides of the bowls, their whiskers have nerve endings and it is uncomfortable for them.

hah. my cat does that with water.
no its neither, i think they just like to examine their food before eating/drinking it.
any bowls will do just fine for a cat.
